What is the chemical composition of nylon?

< All Topics

The monomer of nylon is caprolactam. The polymers are arranged in a linear structure. Being a polyamide polymer, Nylon consists of polyethene segments and certain chemical groups such as amide group and the amino group which results in the formation of hydrogen bonds between polymer chains.

In addition, the polymer arrangement in nylon is that 65-85% is the crystalline region and 35-15% is the amorphous region that means the polymers are arranged in parallel bundles and more oriented.
