What are the end uses of kenaf fiber?
• Apparel: The kenaf fabric is used for making outerwear such as coats and jackets, activewear such as t-shirts and thus is employed largely in the woven and knitting sector. The fibers are often blended with other fibers such as cotton in order to produce commercially selling textiles. The properties of kenaf fibers that find suitable application in textile sectors are good moisture absorbency, odour control and flame resistance.
• It is estimated that about 50% of fibers are present in the bark of the kenaf plant and can be used to make woven and knitted garments.
• Industrial Textiles: Initially kenaf was used to make rope, cordage, burlap cloth (coarse cloth), fishnets, twine, and paper. Also, sometimes carpets are made of kenaf fabric that are of quite thick quality.
• The kenaf fabric is also used for canvas and sacking textile material.
