What is staple fiber yarn?
Staple yarn also referred to as spun yarn are the yarns that are made by twisting the staple fibers or short filament fibers together. Depending upon different spinning methods, the fabrics made from staple fiber yarns have different properties. Some of the characteristics are:
• Fabrics have small protruding fibers hence they are dull, have fuzzy look, and are subject to pilling.
• Have an excellent handle and provides good comfort
• Fabrics made from staple yarns have good strength and have good covering power.
There are different sub-categories of spun yarns based on the number of plies, degree of twist, the direction of twist, etc. Examples of staple fibers are Carded cotton, combed cotton, woolen, worsted, linen.
