What are the end-uses of ramie fiber?

< All Topics

Ramie is one of the strongest natural fibers and has a limited application in the textile industry. This is mainly because the extraction and cleaning process has a lot of steps such as scraping, pounding, heating, washing, etc which makes it an expensive fiber. Even because the fibers are brittle and non-elastic in nature, hence the spinning process is quite difficult. The hairy surface of yarns results in a lack of cohesion between the fibers and makes it difficult to weave the yarns. But due to the development of improved processing methods, ramie is used in many industries.

• Apparel industry: Ramie is used to produce clothing items such as dresses, suits, skirts, pants, blouses, shirts, children’s clothes, etc.

• Home furnishing: Ramie fiber is used to manufacture home furnishing products such as curtains, draperies, upholstery, canvas, bedspreads, table linens, dish towels, etc.

• Other products which are manufactured using ramie fibers are industrial sewing thread, packing materials, fishing nets, filter cloths, paper, parachute fabrics, woven fire hoses, narrow weaving, etc.
