What is the history and origin of coir fiber?

Coconut palm trees have been grown for at least 4000 years and belong to the world ‘s oldest plant species. It is said that in about 60 A.D., a Greek sailor accounted about an East African dwelling (present-day Tanzania) who constructed the planks for their boats by weaving together the coconut fibers. By the 11th century, the residents of Sri Lanka and India knew the art of extraction and processing of coconut fibers taught to them by the Arab traders.
