What is the history and origin of polypropylene fiber?
Polypropylene was developed in 1951 by the two-petroleum scientist Chemists Robert Banks and J. Paul Hogan accidentally. Later more advancement was made by Italian and German scientists Natta and Rehn in 1954 where they perfected the technique to synthesise the polypropylene resin and it was within three years that the mass production for the polymer began in 1957. The initial trade name for polypropylene was “Moplen” which continues to remain the same and is a registered product of LyondellBasell corporation. After its introduction into the market, polypropylene was soon incorporated in the textile sector and was the manufacturing of nonwoven.
