What is the chemical composition of acetate fiber?

< All Topics

Acetate is an ester cellulosic fiber having cellobiose as the monomer. Acetate is composed of cellulose acetate that is formed on reaction of the cellulosic matter (cotton linters and wood pulp) with acetic acid and acetic anhydride in the presence of a catalyst i.e. sulphuric acid and as a result, the acetyl group gets attached to the glucose unit of cellulose. Thus, acetate is an ester of acetic acid.
