What is VFY?

< All Topics

VFY is regarded as Viscose filament yarn. It is a natural yarn that uses wood pulp, bamboo pulp, or cotton pulp as its raw material. VFY or Viscose Filament Yarn is regenerated fibers that have a similar feel and texture to that of silk, cotton and wool. VFY is also regarded as rayon yarn or rayon filament yarn. The fabrics made from VFY have similar properties to that of clothes made from natural fibers, hence it is very difficult to identify them. Delicate fabrics such as georgettes, crepes, and chiffons are made from viscose filament yarn.

Based on application, the VFY market is divided into two applications i.e. in clothing textiles and in home textiles. Soft and smooth fabrics for clothing are manufactured from viscose filament yarns because of its breathability and absorbance properties. VFY is available in raw white bright, optical white, dope-dyed, dull dyed, etc.

The global market share for viscose filament yarn is around 1410 million USD in 2019. A few of the leading regions in the global market for viscose filament yarn are Central & South America, North America, Europe, Asia Pacific, Latin America, and Middle East & Africa. Among all these regions Asia Pacific has the largest market share followed by Europe and North America. This is mainly because of the growing economies like China. China is among one of the global leaders in manufacturing viscose filament yarn while in India, Grasim is one of the largest producers of VFY. Some of the leading manufacturers of VFY are Glanzstoff, Kayavlon Impex Pvt. Ltd., Meher International, Aditya Birla Group, Yibin Grace Group (CN), Swan Fiber (CN), etc.
