What is the chemical composition of hemp fiber?

< All Topics

The chemical composition of hemp is 70-74% cellulose, 15-20% hemicellulose, 3.5-5.7% lignin, 0.8% pectin and 1.2-6.2% wax. The fibers are bonded by lignin in the middle lamella where the lignin concentration is about 90% while the second layer is the thickest because of the high concentration of cellulose deposition in it.
