The major producer of pineapple fabric is Asian countries. While the Philippines is the largest producer other countries include Thailand, Hawaiian Islands, China, Brazil, Mexico, India and Taiwan. Annually about 8,300,000 metric tons of pineapples are cultivated around the world.
The oldest and the primary manufacturer of pina fabric is Kalibo, the capital of Aklan province in the Philippines. North America and Europe are the two major consumers of pina fabric and are exported to these countries by Philippine’s. Although the fabric is quite expensive owing to the labor-intensive process and is an epitome of Philippine’s old age tradition.
