What is the history and origin of rayon?
The need for the regenerated fiber emerged in the 1860s when the silk industry in France faced a setback. So, in order to get over this situation, Count Hilaire de Chardonnet developed artificial silk from cellulosic material which got the patent in 1885. However, the name rayon was coined by the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) and by 1925 the manufacturing of rayon began in full swing.
Rayon is a highly popular fabric as it resembles various natural fibers such as cotton and silk. The fabric is quite breathable and moisture-absorbent.
