What is the chemical composition of spandex?

< All Topics

Spandex is a long chain block copolymer containing polyurethane. The structure of spandex is quite complex and has two kinds of regions:

• Rigid Section: formed by diisocyanate which provides strength to the fiber

• Flexible Section: formed by macroglycol is basically the amorphous segment which in the relaxed state is present in spiral form and on stretching the fiber structure straightens out. The two regions are oriented accordingly.
