What is gore-tex fabric?

Gore-Tex is a waterproof and breathable fabric which is patented and registered by W. L. Gore and Associates. This waterproof fabric is manufactured with a variant of polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE) which is commonly known as Teflon. This material is also known as expanded PTFE or ePTFE. Gore-tex is known to be one of the first flexible waterproof fabrics invented. Gore-tex was invented in 1969 by Wilbert L. Gore and Robert W. Gore.

Gore-Tex is one of the first waterproof fabrics that is designed in such a way which can repel water and allows only water vapor to pass through it. It is a very lightweight fabric which is suitable for all kinds of weather. Gore-Tex fabric has a wide number of applications such as in high-performance fabrics, medical implants, filter media, insulation for wires and cables, gaskets, sealants, etc. the most common application of Gore-Tex fabric is in protective and breathable rainwear.
