Expansion of Finley Mills, textile park, setting up cotton processing units in Vidarbha on cards

A high-level meeting with Union textile minister Santosh Gangwar and Union minister of state for small and medium industries Giriraj Singh was held at New Delhi on Thursday to take important decisions related to expansion of Finley Mills at Achalpur, development of textile park at Nandgaon Peth MIDC, setting up of cotton processing units at taluka level and shifting of closed NTC mills in Mumbai to Vidarbha.

The meeting was a step in the direction of stopping farmers' suicides in Vidarbha and improving their financial condition.

Grasim Industries Ltd, a maker of viscose staple fibre announced on Friday that due to water shortage at its staple fibre plant in Madhya Pradesh would suspend operations.

The company has started reducing production of staple fibre at its plant located at Nagda (in Madhya Pradesh) in a phased manner due to water shortage caused by deficient rain last year, the company said in a statement to the BSE.

Trade authority of Turkey last week extended higher levies on Indonesian yarn of man-made staple fibers, which are to apply for five years following a recent review. The duties, ranging from 25 cents to 40 cents for each kilogram of yarn, have affected more than 20 local firms, including major textile manufacturers PT Indorama and PT Sri Rejeki Isman (Sritex).

Besides Indonesia, the expanded tariffs, particularly at higher levels, are likely to impact other producers, including China and India.

The Vietnam National Textile and Garment Group (Vinatex) has started construction of a textile and garment factory complex in the central province of Quang Nam. The project includes a fibre factory with a capacity to produce 4,600 tons of products annually, a textile and dyeing factory with annual capacity of 5,000 tons and a garment factory with 20 knitwear production lines with capacity to manufacture 20 to 25 million pieces per year.

SAE-A Spinning is a subsidiary of South Korean company Sae-A Trading Co., manufacturer of quality apparel launched operations of its new yarn spinning plant in the province of Cartago in Costa Rica with an initial investment of just over $35 million on Thursday.

The company’s CEO Woong-Ki Kim said that the new plant would create more opportunities for new and existing businesses here. The new Costa Rica plant employs 270 workers and produces cotton yarn for export, mainly to other countries in North and South America.

Cotton prices remained firm despite demand from spinners

Despite demand for quality lint from spinners, trading was slow as ginners were reluctant to sell their stocks at this juncture which kept prices firm on the cotton market on Thursday. Expected delay in the arrival of next crop is another reason which is keeping prices higher, brokers said.

Floor brokers said that the final phutti (seed cotton) arrival figures expected to be released next month could place total cotton production for the current season at around 14.9 million bales.

CAP Carpet, a longtime business based in Wichita, owns Aircraft Interior Products and White Oak Custom Carpet has acquired Mountain Rug Mills and Spinning Wheel Rugs in Hendersonville, N.C. Financial terms of the acquisition were not disclosed.

Govt revises cotton output estimate to 39 mn bales for current marketing year

The government has revised its cotton production estimate for the current marketing year due to unseasonal rains and hail storms across the county from 40 million bales to 39 million bales. Cotton crop prospects adversely impacted particularly in the central zone, textile minister Santosh Kumar Gangwar said in a written reply to the Lok Sabha. One bale equals 170 kg.

The main cotton growing states include Rajasthan, Telengana, Andhra Pradesh, and Tamil Nadu. Total demand is estimated to be at 39 million bales in 2014-15, compared to 41.68 million bales in the previous season.
