Pakistan companies from textile sector to participate in Techtextil and Texprocess exhibition

Techtextil and Texprocess, the leading international trade fairs in the fields of technical textiles, nonwovens, and processing of textile and flexible materials, began yesterday in Frankfurt. About 100 Pakistani trade visitors from textile sector are going to visit the four-day Techtextil Frankfurt and Texprocess exhibition.

Pakistan cotton production this season increased by 11pc over last season

This season cotton production of Pakistan has witnessed growth by 11 percent to 14.871 million bales compared to 13.391m bales a year earlier. Punjab produced 10.896m bales, showing a rise of 13.14pc over 9.631m bales last season, according to Pakistan Cotton Ginners Association’s (PCGA) final phutti (seed cotton) report for the current season.

But Sindh recorded a growth of only 5.7pc in cotton production at 3.974m bales as against 3.76m bales produced last season (2013-14).

Tirupur exports of readymade garments has almost touched Rs 21,000 crore in 2014-15, witnessing 17 percent growth over last year. The Coimbatore-based Slivertex Engineers has tied up with a Japanese based company Teijin for manufacture of eco-friendly mattresses under the Fibbo brand. The company produced about 200 mattresses a day now and this would be scaled up to 400 in three months.

According to Slivertex’s Managing Director P Muthiah the raw material (polyester fibre) is imported from the Japanese company, which is used in the making of fibre cushion.

Pakistan cotton market witnessed slow down in its trading activity on Saturday after staying active for entire week. According to floor brokers, they expected hiatus in activity due to limited stocks held by ginners. The Karachi Cotton Association (KCA) spot rates were steady at previous level.

However, there was demand from some needy mills, but ginners demanded higher rates for their limited cotton stocks. Barring a few deals, which were mostly finalized on high rates, activity on the market remained devoid of enthusiasm.
