VDMA textile machinery conference that took place from 21-22 April in Tehran hit high number of participants. BESTSELLER is a family-owned Danish fashion company to expand its India portfolio to four brands is planning to soon bring in its premium brand — Selected. The privately-held company, which owns around 15 brands, currently operates menswear brand Jack and Jones, and women's brands Vero Moda and Only in India.

Ranjan Sharma, chief information officer at Bestseller India said that they have added one more brand, Selected, to their portfolio which they plan to launch in a couple of months.

For two decades, Dubow Textile Inc. has worked to set a standard of excellence in the custom textile industry. The owner of Dubow Textile Inc. is planning at adding 21,000 square feet to existing facility by mid-August.

The $1.5 million expansion project would take place on the north side of the location, 455 Lincoln Ave. NE. Dubow said that he plans to immediately invest in $600,000 worth of new equipment once the expansion nears completion.

Mayhoola for Investments OPC of Qatar focus on local and global investments is to acquire Turkish retailer Boyner Perakende’s 30.7 percent for 885 million lira. This would mark an entry to Turkey for the Qatari-royal-family investor, which has been expanding its global presence.

Boyner Group Chairman and CEO Cem Boyner welcomed the move, through partnership with Mayhoola they plan to strengthen their capital to be able to finance their future investment goals.

The textile sector is the largest employment generating sector of India, especially for low-skilled workers, and needs to be supported. The Textiles Ministry held preliminary discussions on the matter related to textile industry with officials in the Commerce Ministry and the Directorate General of Foreign Trade. They have forwarded all the complaints received from the industry. The Secretaries from the two ministries are also in touch.

A textile machinery symposium took place in the Iranian capital Teheran on April 21 & 22, 2015 organized by the German VDMA. This was the first German event of this type on Iranian soil in the last ten years.

The event was opened by Golnar Nasrollahi, general Manager of Textile & Garment Department, Regina Brückner, Chairwoman of the VDMA Association for Textile Machinery, and Michael von Ungern-Sternberg, German Embassador.

The symposium was very well attended with about 600 guests each day which showed clearly the interest in German textile machinery and their good reputation.

Low wages, plentiful labour and an image problem in neighbouring Bangladesh have all boosted Myanmar’s chances. The international textile sector has discovered Myanmar as next best destination as there are currently 200,000 workers in more than 300 factories. Neighbouring Bangladesh has around 4,000 textile factories.

The Italian government appointed a trade mission to Dubai to explore investment and tourism potential between the two countries as it is a perfect time to attract investors to Italy during the Expo Milano 2015. .

According to Giovanni Favilli, Consul General of Italy in Dubai said that Italy is very good as an export market. They export the three FFFs — food, fashion and Ferrari — to the whole world, and the currency depreciation makes exports cheaper, and in turn increases profit margin.

Pakistan textile and garment exports earned has surpassed US$ 10billion mark in the first nine months of fiscal year 2014-15 that began on July 1, 2014. According to the data released by the Pakistan Bureau of Statistics, it has earned US$ 10.207 billion from textile exports. However, the value of textile and apparel exports during the nine-month period was 1.57 per cent lower compared to exports of $9.136 billion in the corresponding period of previous fiscal.

Dull trading was witnessed at the Pakistan cotton market on Monday as most of the ginners again raised asking prices as they have very little stock of lint cotton. The official spot rate remained unchanged at Rs 5300.

Market sources said that trading activity came down in the absence of mills' buying interest as the ginners kept on the sidelines because of shortage of lint cotton. Nearly 1,000 bales of cotton sold at Rs 5650.

The prices of seed cotton in Sindh were at Rs 1900 and Rs 2500 and in Punjab rates were at Rs 2200 and Rs 3000, dealers reported.
