Pakistan Mercantile Exchange (PMEX) has re-launched the International Cotton (ICotton) contract based on the response of the market participants and growing interest of investors in ICotton futures contract duly approved by Securities & Exchange Commission of Pakistan (SECP).

India's apparels, home textiles and technical textiles segments are expected to double their market size. According to the latest report by Technopak Advisors, India's leading management consulting firm, textile and apparel exports too are expected to grow from $40 billion to $95 billion by 2023 – taking the total size of the industry to $233 billion from $98 billion.

Re-opening of Mulungushi Textiles in Kabwe deferred as the concessionaire Mohammed Enterprises Tanzania Limited (MeTL) Tanzania’s largest home-grown company, worth more than US$1 billion has requested for some waivers from Government before operations at the Kabwe factory could start.

The Government is looking at the demands by (MeTL). The Deputy Minister of Defence Christopher Mulenga said that the Ministry of Defence, which owns the Zambia-China Mulungushi Textiles Joint Venture, is consulting the Ministry of Finance regarding the demands by MeTL, said in Lusaka on Monday.

KCA kept the spot rate intact at Rs 5,450 per maund in order to provide support to weak stakeholders of raw grade to ward off minimal price level, according to floor brokers.

Yarn Expo Spring 2015, leading fibre and yarn trade events in Asia, wrapped up on March 20 witnessed constant growth in its visitor number. The fair attracted nearly 21,000 trade visitors from 46 countries and regions – with the top five being Mainland China, India, Korea, Turkey and Hong Kong – representing an increase of 3% compared to last year.

The three-day event, which commenced on March 18 in the National Exhibition and Convention Center (Shanghai), was the second edition in Shanghai after it relocated from Beijing in 2014.

Vision Textiles, a Chinese textile company which makes fabrics from recycled pet bottles, having noted that the initial reaction for products made from recycled pet (polyethylene terephthalate) bottles has been good in India, especially in the making of children’s school uniforms, is on an expansion drive in India, informed Founder and CEO Monique Maissan.

The company, which sells garments under the Waste2Wear brand in India, is now in discussion with possible investors to scale up business in the country. It’s also looking for partners.
