Dull trading witnessed on cotton market

Dull trading was witnessed on the cotton market on Friday as ginners were reluctant to sell lint cotton at prevailing prices. According to brokers, dwindling cotton stocks, particularly of quality lint, are a major factor for slow trading. As the current season is approaching to an end, the cotton stocks in the country have declined below 250,000 bales.

The official spot rate was unchanged at Rs 5300, dealers said. So, in the ready session, around 2,000 bales of cotton changed hands between Rs 4900 and Rs 5500 (conditional).

Puducherry Government has joined hands with Snapdeal to market and promote the rich and diverse handicrafts of local artisans online under the brand name ‘Artisanat’. The agreement was entered this month through online dealings, B Vasanthakumar, managing director of the federation said.

A memorandum of understanding was executed to this effect between Puducherry State Cooperative Handloom and Handicrafts Federation (PSCHHDF), a government of Puducherry undertaking, with Snapdeal, an online shopping portal.

The Natural Resources Defense Council (NRDC) program called Clean by Design, works with Chinese textile mills to help them improve their energy and water efficiency, while also reducing the use of toxic chemicals which in turn help save money while going green.

Clean by Design further quantifies how effective the program can be. Using benchmarking data from 33 textile mills in China, the program saved the participating factories a total of $14.73 million in reduced operating costs. The average mill reduced its water usage by nine percent, its electricity usage by four percent.

Skill training to be provided for as many as 20,000 persons working in the textiles sector in Haryana by the Technical Education Department during 2015-16 and 2016-17 financial years under the Integrated Skill Development Scheme (ISDS).

This scheme will be implemented in seven districts of Panipat, Bhiwani, Hisar, Faridabad, Gurgaon, Ambala and Rohtak.

The skill training would be provided through empanelled training providers in the sectors of weaving, spinning, knitting, garments, dyeing, block printing, embroidery, handloom and carpet, an official release said here today.
