Ethiopia to host International Conference on African Textile Industry in Addis Ababa

International conference on African textile industry to be held in Addis Ababa for three days starting from October 19, 2015, which will give an opportunity for the country to display the potential it has in the textile and garment sector and bring in foreign investors and buyers as well.

The participants at the conference will be investors engaged in cotton, textile, tailoring and stakeholders that support the sustainability of the growth of the sector, a press release issued by Ethiopian Textile Industry Development Institute stated.

A report was released by CII and Wazir Advisors at the CII Texcon 2015 here on Thursday, on how to enable ‘Make in India’ possible in textile and apparel sector. The report highlighted that the TPP trade agreement will open markets and enable countries like Vietnam a zero duty access to the US market for textile, while Indian players will have to pay 14-32% duties, which will make them uncompetitive.

Polyester spun yarn market remains steady

In Qianqing, offers for 32s polyester yarn were down US cent 1 a kg in the last week of September with initial days of October in that week.

Spun polyester yarn prices were stable to weak in Shengze of Jiangsu, and the transaction volume was not large on the whole. Mainstream offers for spun polyester yarn rolled over previous week’s numbers.

Although PSF prices in India remained unchanged, polyester yarn prices were seen moderating in Indore market while they rolled over in Ludhiana market.

PTA price edges up in Asia while stable in Europe

Asian PTA markers inched up US$2 a ton CFR China in the last week of September.

In China, potential negotiations were pegged at US$575-580 a ton.

Yisheng Petrochemical cut its price for PTA by US$10 ton, but no enquiries on the week. Hengli Petrochemical issued self-lifting offers at US$620 a ton.

Purified terephthalic acid prices edged up this week amid thin trading and weak polyester demand.

However, operating rates at several downstream PET and polyester plants in China had reportedly improved but this did not led to significant demand for spot or prompt cargoes.

Union minister of state for textiles Santosh Gangwar has been urged to increase the minimum support price (MSP) for cotton from Rs 4,100 to Rs 5,000 per quintal by the Irrigation and Marketing Minister T Harish Rao in his letter to the Union minister on Wednesday.
