Philippines textile and apparel industries likely to revive by joining TTP

In the Philippines, even among business leaders there is still very little appreciation of Trans Pacific Partnership (TPP) for its beneficial effects on the Philippine economy. For instance, some claim that the contents of the TPP Agreement are a secret. The TTP is envisioned to be similar to the European Common Market. The goal is to eliminate trade barriers especially tariffs and quotas among countries in the Asia Pacific region. The first batch of signatories included Australia, Brunei, Canada Chile, Japan, Malaysia, Mexico, New Zealand, Peru, Singapore, United States and Vietnam.

At CII Texcon 2015 organised by industry lobby Confederation of Indian Industry in Delhi on October 16, the Northern India Textile Research Association (NITRA) under textiles ministry has signed a memorandum of understanding with the Technological University of Tajikistan to give a boost to bilateral trade between the two countries.

The XI International Cotton Fair held in Tashkent October 15-16 with over 1,000 representatives of 470 companies from 42 countries took part. At the closing ceremony of the fair, Uzbekistan minister of foreign economic relations, investments and trade, Elyor Ganiev said that Uzbekistan during the fair concluded contracts for export of 700,000 tons of cotton fiber and finished textile products worth more than $800 million.

Chinese cotton imports demand has just reached 50,900 tonnes an all-time low in September, a decline of 59% year-on-year as large domestic inventories reduced reliance on foreign supplies, at a time when economic slowdown is weighing on demand. This is the lowest monthly import since records began in 2005, and the second month of record low imports in a row, website CNCotton reports.

The data from CNCotton follows reports on Wednesday from the China Cotton Association that Chinese imports for the first nine months of the year fell 42% to 1.16m tonnes.
