TTP deal to make Vietnam a favoured destination for export oriented investment

Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP) trade agreement is expected to create a new foreign direct investment (FDI) trend in Vietnam which would also have a positive impact on the country’s improvement of investment climate, said Duane Morris Vietnam LLC’s general director Oliver Massmann.

He noted that determining the actual working of the new FDI trend required a detailed analysis of the content of the agreement and its implementation.

ASF market remains stable despite falling input cost

In the last week of September, acrylic staple fibre markets witnessed slow liquidity amid limited negotiations in a thick holiday atmosphere.

In China, run rate stayed at close to 100 per cent while downstream mills purchased need-based volume, leading to tolerable inventory level.

Downstream mills reportedly reduced their offers in line with the sharp decline of raw material cost, while the downside range differed between the converters.
Demand for differentiated fiber remained subdued.

Offers for cotton-type staple fiber and medium-length staple were stable.

Acrylonitrile prices plunge amid falling propylene prices

Asian acrylonitrile markers plunged US$50 and US$38 a ton CFR Far East Asia and Southeast Asia respectively in the last week of September.

In China, spots offers fell US$50 a ton.

Acrylonitrile prices in Asian markets tanked reflecting the plunge in feedstock propylene cost in the third week. Ample supply in China also pulled down prices amid weak demand.

Downstream, styrene monomer was assessed down over the same period while ABS prices are expected to soften in October due to weak demand and raw material prices.

Uncertainty over size of cotton production kept prices higher

The uncertainty about the size of cotton production with strong demand with some needy mills and exporters indulged in forward purchase kept prices higher at Pakistan cotton market on Wednesday.

In the ready business, over 20,000 bales of cotton changed hands between Rs 4600 and Rs 5450, while in Sindh, seed cotton prices were higher by Rs 100 to Rs 2600 and Rs 2800 and in Punjab prices gained Rs 100-300 to Rs 2600 and Rs 3100, dealers said. But the official spot rate remained unchanged at Rs 5200.

In Pakistan, the textile spinning mills had shut down the production on Wednesday to protest against government anti-industry policies which increased the cost of doing business in Pakistan.

The recent hike in power tariff and gas infrastructure development cess (GIDC) add around Rs 170 billion to the cost of doing business every year, said Tariq Saud, chairman of All Pakistan Textile Mills Association (APTMA).

He said that this strike was successful which also included leading groups in spinning sector, right from Karachi to Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

The Vietnam - India textile cooperation conference was held on Monday in Ha Noi, on the occasion Doan Duy Khuong, vice chairman of the Viet Nam Chamber of Commerce and Industry (VCCI), said that India had great opportunities to provide raw materials for Vietnamese textile industry.

Vietnam needs more than 500,000 tonnes of cotton per year to meet rising demand. The domestic garment and textile sector had to import a large quantity of cotton as the country's cotton output met only 1 per cent of local producers' demand, said the chairman.
