Vietnam’s garment and textile exports to grow 11.5% a year till 2020

The Vietnam Textile and Apparel Association (VITAS) said that the garment and textile sector exports will grow an average of 11.5 per cent per year from now till 2020.

According to the VITAS reports, the sector is expected to generate export revenue of US$27.5 billion this year, and increase this value to $31 billion next year and $45 billion to $50 billion by 2020.

Vietnam's garment and textile exports totalled $20 billion in the last nine months of this year, an increase of 10 per cent over the same period last year.

Vietnam has been among the top ten garment and textile exporters in the world for the last 10 years. Last year, it ranked fifth after China, Turkey, Bangladesh and India. According to the Vietnam Textile and Apparel Association (Vitas) in the first nine months of this year alone, garment and textile exports totalled $20 billion, an increase of 10 percent over the same period last year.

Nylon filament yarn price tumbles in China

Prices of semi-dull FDY70D/24F in China were down US cents 5 a kg in the third week of November while FDY40D were down US cents 2 a kg.

Nylon DTY 70D/24F prices also fell US cents 2 a kg while DTY 30D/10F tumbled US cents 8 a kg.

Monofilament 30D was down at 17.00-18.00 Yuan a kg (US$2.67-2.82 a kg) and 1.5D staple fiber were at 15.80-16.00 Yuan a kg (US$2.48-2.51 a kg).

Nylon filament yarn prices edged down following easing cost pressure from sobering caprolactum and nylon chips cost.

Caprolactum price declines in China

In China, liquid good offers were mainly at US$1,600-1,630 a ton in the third week of November while solid goods fell US$70 a ton.

Asian markers, the SE and FE rolled over at US$1,300-1,350 a ton while trading values for East European goods were at US$1,300-1,350 a ton.

Sinopec cut its November contract nomination to US$1,645 a ton, down US$75 for liquid goods.

DSM Nanjing’s settlement for November was at US$1,870 a ton for solid goods.

Viscose yarn price falls in China while stable in India and Pakistan

In China, mainstream prices of 40s compact siro-spun yarn in Jiangsu were down US cents 4 a kg in the third week of November while 30s spun viscose in Xiaoshan were steady.

Spun viscose yarn prices softened in the third week of November in China with those for regular specs like rotor-spun, ring-spun, vortex-spun and siro-spun yarn down slightly, except for some core-spun yarn whose prices remained firm amid high profits.

Blended yarn price declines in China and Pakistan

In Qianqing, PC (65/35) 32s yarn prices fell US cents 2 a kg in the third week of November while 45s PC combed yarn prices were stable.

Blended yarn prices declined on the week in China, depending on products.

With colder weather looming, demand for fine count yarns is likely to remain depressed whereas sales of low counts could rebound.

In Pakistan, PC yarn price remained stable while weak currency pegged values down in US$ term.

WTO backs Panama’s complaint over Colombian tariff on textiles and clothes

Colombia's neighbour Panama case which had been brought to the World Trade Organization in 2013 against Colombia’s tariff on textiles, clothes and shoes was backed by the WTO panel. Panama had complaint that the tariffs, which consisted of a fixed 10 percent and a variable component, breached the maximum allowable 35-40 percent tariff on those products.

Previously, Panama had lodged two complaints against its neighbor for which the first was settled by Colombia out of court in 2006, while the second dispute in 2009 was won by Panama.
