China to focus on Africa’s key economic sectors of textile

The new phase of the China-Africa cooperation will now focus more closely on getting Chinese investors to provide financial support and investments across all African regions. They will focus on strengthening their cooperation to boost manufacturing output in key economic sectors of textile, electronics and car assemblies, a top Chinese official said last week.

The Centre is planning to launch the pilot of Direct Payment Deficiency System (DPDS) during the current cotton season at Hinganghat in Wardha district of Maharashtra to help the cotton farmers have better realisation of their produce when market rate rules below the minimum support price (MSP). If the pilot is successful, the DPDS will be rolled out in all cotton-growing regions.

Under this system, the farmers will directly get the difference amount between the MSP and market price, if it (the latter) is ruling below the MSP, said the Textile Commissioner of India Kavita Gupta.

Blended yarn prices fall in India, stable in China and Pakistan

In India, yarn prices have been mostly weaker in the last week of November, depending on products and market locations. PC yarn prices declined INR2 or 1.5 per cent in Ludhiana market on the week.

In India, 30s (65/35) PV yarn prices remained flat on the week at US$2.11 a kg, down US cent 1 (due to weak INR) in Indore market.

However, in Ludhiana, PC 30s (52/48) prices fell US cents 4 a kg on the week.

In China, PC yarn prices did not move on the week but there was some demand for PC yarn and low-count open end yarn from low-end fabric makers.

Viscose yarn price declines in China

In China, mainstream prices of 40s compact siro-spun yarn in Jiangsu fell US cents 9 a kg in the last week of November while 30s spun viscose in Xiaoshan edged down US cent 1 a kg.

Viscose spun yarn prices softened in China on lower cost. Cashmere-like yarn, which was salable in the third week, faced poor liquidity given widespread shutdowns of downstream printing and dyeing mills.

Prices for Xiaoshan-origin ring-spun 30s yarn fell, while offers for rotor-spun 30s yarn were flat on the week.

Cotton exports likely to see 18pc rise in 2015-16

Union Textile Minister Santosh Gangwar in his written reply in the Lok Sabha, citing estimates of the Cotton Advisory Board stated that the exports from India for 2015-16 are likely to see increase by about 18 per cent compared with the previous fiscal year.

The minister further added that during the cotton year of 2014-15 (from October 1, 2014 to September 30, 2015), 57.72 lakh bales of raw cotton were exported as against 116.96 lakh bales during the cotton year of 2013-14.

The decline in exports was mainly due to substantial reduction in import by China, Gangwar said.

Textile ministry formulating new approach to boost textile exports

The textile and the commerce ministries both are engaged in formulating new strategies to boost exports in the textile and clothing sector as it is the largest employment provider after agriculture, accounting for some 45 million jobs.
