Acrylonitrile price rolls over in US and Europe

In US, export prices rolled over on the week to an assessment of US$820-830 a ton in the last week of November.

Export assessment was flat for a third straight week with supply-demand fundamentals balanced. Spot was flat as global pricing were mixed and values reaching floor.

In Europe, acrylonitrile spot prices held steady at US$898-902 a ton CIF Mediterranean.

European acrylonitrile spot pricing maintained strength on the week on price increase in Asia while arbitrage to the region was not enviable.

Fall in cotton prices kept buyers and sellers confuse

Some needy spinners were seen buying at cotton market due to falling cotton prices on Tuesday to replenish their stocks. Due to short crop, cotton prices should have soared and activity should have been brisk, brokers said. However, the situation continued to be uncertain as buyers and sellers remained confused over the rapid changes in the market behaviour.

Fall in US dollar’s value against the rupee forced many ginners to dispose of their stocks in a hurry because import parity of cotton improved.

CII holds business to business meet with Saudi exporters

India is the fifth largest market for Saudi exports accounting for 8.87 percent. The Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) in coordination with the state-run Saudi Exporters Development Authority jointly organized a business-to business (B2B) meeting with an exporters' delegation from Saudi Arabia in New Delhi on Wednesday.

Saudi Arabia which is India's fourth largest trade partner and a major source of energy, India imports around 20 percent of its crude oil requirements.

Bangladesh to witness rise in cotton consumption by 10 percent to more than one million tonnes due to higher demand from garment makers and favourable government policies for the textile sector while cotton consumption in Vietnam, one of the major competitors of Bangladesh in global apparel trade, will rise 20 percent to 1.1 million this fiscal year, as per the latest report released last week by the International Cotton Advisory Committee.

MEG price dives in Asian market

Asian MEG prices fell US$17 a ton CFR China and CFR South East Asia in the last week of November.

In China, values fell to US$550-555 a ton in the first half of that week, and later surged by US$5-10 in line with rebounding crude oil values.

In the H2 of the week, prices were corrected to below US$570 a ton.

Mono ethylene glycol prices declined in Asian markets on on negative outlook and surplus stock, triggering short-selling.

No support is expected from cost or demand side, with expectation of lower run rates at downstream polyester plants.

Paraxylene price falls in Asia and Europe, up in US

Asian paraxylene markers were down US$6 a ton FOB Korea and CFR Taiwan/China in the last week of November.

Nominations for December contract prices were at US$820-830 a ton CFR Asia.

Paraxylene prices in Asian markets fell on the week amid heavy selling interest and weakness in upstream isomer- mixed xylene markets.

Meanwhile, December Asian contract price was nominated. Contracts remained unsettled despite production economics were marginally positive.

BP announced that it has put up its Decatur, Alabama, Petrochemicals complex for sale.
