China keen to facilitate trade and investment in Odisha

China Consulate General of Eastern Zone, MA Zhanwu addressing a meet organized by the Indian Chamber of Commerce (ICC) in Bhubaneswar on Tuesday informed that Odisha is a good place for investment and China is keen to invest in the state of Odisha especially in textile sector, port development and food processing.

He also said that they can facilitate trade and investment between Odisha and China in the textile industry, port development, food processing, etc,. The people in the state of Odisha have lots of opportunities and they are doing well.

South Korea and Vietnam after starting negotiations in September 2012, the two sides formally signed the free trade agreement (FTA) on May 5, with South Korea's National Assembly approving the trade agreement on Nov. 30. The free trade pact between South Korea and Vietnam now will go into effect on Dec. 20, and will help fuel trade and expand investment opportunities, the government said Wednesday.

MEG price tumbles across all regions

Asian MEG prices fell US$4 a ton CFR China and South East Asia in the first week of December.

In China, MEG prices fluctuated in the range of US$560-565 a ton. However, as news that Saudi Arabia did not cut down oil production trickled in, discussions and trading values of MEG cargoes softened to US$550-555 a ton.

Mono ethylene glycol prices fell on lower MEG futures and short-selling by traders. In China, February MEG futures fell from Monday as bearish sentiment drags bids lower.

Paraxylene prices up in Asia, down in US and Europe

Asian paraxylene markers were up US$5 a ton FOB Korea and CFR Taiwan/China in the first week of December.

Deal level for January was lower with an open-origin cargo sold at $793 a ton on a CFR Taiwan/Ningbo/Dalian basis.

Paraxylene prices in Asian markets were up on the week but moderated weekend on downstream weakness and deals level for January were lower.

Upstream, isomer mixed xylene was up on buying interest for January while inventor depleted in East China.

Turkish textile exporters eye Africa after Russian sanctions

After a Russian jet was shot down along the Syrian border on November 24 2015, Russia has imposed economic sanctions on Turkey.

Moscow has banned the import of some Turkish goods, imposed restrictions on travel, and plans to stop some Turkish companies doing business in Russia.

Turkey's ready-to-wear exporters, who have been affected by the Moscow sanctions, eye new markets in Africa to compensate the Russian losses in textile.

Arvi taluk identified for direct fund transfer to cotton farmers

The Ministry of Textiles first stage of the project on direct transfer of funds to cotton farmers’ accounts will be rolled out in Arvi taluk, Wardha district of Maharashtra, on an experimental basis, if the price of cotton drops below the Minimum Support Price (MSP), said Textile Commissioner, Kavita Gupta.

The taluk was identified for the project as land documents are digitised and the Agriculture Produce Market Committee has better infrastructure. They are evolving a mechanism to make the payment directly to the farmers. They are still working on procedural modalities, she said.

The circular knitting mill with an investment of US$ 10 million which will be located in Johor, about 60km from the group’s current main factory in Batu Pahat, will have an annual production capacity of around 15 million yarns of fabric.
