At the two-day Taiwan Textile Fair (TTF) organized by Taiwan Textile Federation, supported by the Tirupur Exporters Association (TEA), and the Confederation of Indian Textile Industry (CITI) held from Dec 1 to 2 in India-Bengaluru , the Taiwan Eco Textiles to promote green environment encouraged textile manufacturers to make use of Polyethylene terephthalate (PET) bottles to spin yarn .

The government has issued a draft notification on norm to control the massive pollution caused by the textile industry wherein it has directed it to adhere to the 'Zero Liquid Discharge' (ZLD) norms which essentially means that a factory recycles all effluents and doesn't release even a drop into the environment.

MEG prices plunge amid surplus stock in Asia

Asian MEG prices fell US$17 a ton CFR China and CFR South East Asia in the third week of November.

In China, values fell to US$550-555 a ton in the first half of the week, and later surged by US$5-10 in line with rebounding crude oil values.

In the H2 of the week, prices were corrected to below US$570 a ton.

Mono ethylene glycol prices declined in Asian markets on negative outlook and surplus stock, triggering short-selling.

No support is expected from cost or demand side, with expectation of lower run rates at downstream polyester plants.

Paraxylene price moves down in Asia and Europe

Asian paraxylene markers were down US$6 a ton FOB Korea and CFR Taiwan/China in the third week of November.

Nominations for December contract prices were at US$820-830 a ton CFR Asia.

Paraxylene prices in Asian markets fell on the week amid heavy selling interest and weakness in upstream isomer- mixed xylene markets. Meanwhile, December Asian contract price was nominated.

US spot paraxylene was up US$5 a ton on the week. The market continued discussions in a range of US$740-$798 a ton.

In US, paraxylene spot tracked Asian movement while lack of liquidity muted spot movement.

Donors including the government of India is planning to invest more than Sh4 Billion in phase two expansion plan of the Rift Valley Textile Company ( Rivatex) in Eldoret which is likely to increase the region's cotton production and create 2,000 more direct jobs. The firm has 600 workers.

Investors want more farmers in Western and Rift Valley to venture into cotton farming to produce enough raw materials to sustain it.

Pakistan local textile industry badly affected by the surge in import of man-made fibre (MMF) yarns, including polyester, acrylic and fabric, in the domestic commerce. The import of MMF yarns has surged to 72,300 tonnes in 2014-15 against 47,700 tonnes in 2012-13. Similarly, the import of fabric made from MMF yarns has also reached to 562,000 square metres in 2014-15 against 180,000 square metres in 2012-13, according to the Acting Chairman Shahid Mazhar of All Pakistan Textile Mills Association (APTMA) Acting Chairman Shahid Mazhar.
