Centre puts back decision on diluting jute packaging order

The Centre has decided not to dilute the packaging order now and will take a decision after six weeks based on the situation of the raw jute crisis, said state labour minister Malay Ghatak after meeting Union Textile minister Santosh Kumar Gangwar.

Ghatak said that the raw jute holding limit had been decided. The limit for traders is 1,7000 bales with a limit of 15 days and for mills not more than two months stock. Ghatak, next added to say that he would keep a close vigil on the situation so that mills did not close down.

Pakistan cotton market witnessed slow move in trading activity on Monday as some spinning mills remained away from making new deals to see latest developments. This indicates that demand is sluggish owing to under utilization of the capacity by the spinning industry. On the other hand, large spinning groups continue to import cotton from neighbouring country and this has also slowed down considerably. The slow off-take of cotton yarn is also forcing spinners to be cautious and keep their production low.

Nylon yarn price goes down in China

In China, prices of semi-dull FDY70D/24F were down US cents 4 a kg in the second week of November and FDY40D also fell US cents 4 a kg.

Nylon DTY 70D/24F prices were also down US cents 4 a kg while DTY 30D/10F were stable on the week.

Monofilament 30D was down at 17.00-18.00 Yuan a kg (US$2.67-2.83 a kg) and 1.5D staple fiber were at 15.50-16.00 Yuan a kg (US$2.44-2.51 a kg).

Nylon filament yarn prices edged down following decreased operating pressure.

Caprolactum prices plunge amid weak market sentiment

In China, liquid and solid good offers were both down US$70 a ton in the second week of November.

Asian markers, the SE and FE rolled over at US$1,300-1,350 a ton while trading values for East European goods were at US$1,300-1,350 a ton.

Sinopec retained its November contract nomination to US$1,730 a ton for liquid goods.

DSM Nanjing’s settlement for November was at US$1,870 a ton for solid goods.

Caprolactum prices were lower that week amid bearish sentiment and range bound benzene markets.

In October 2015, Pakistan’s textile exports declined by over 10 per cent as compared to the same month last year mainly due to continuous energy shortage, high cost of production and declining prices globally.

According to the latest figures of the Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS), Pakistan’s textile exports were $1.05 billion in October 2015 as against $1.18 billion of the same month of last year, down 10.69 percent.

The US government currently provides duty-free status to over 5,000 types of products produced in Cambodia as part of its Generalized System of Preferences (GSP) Program. Washington granted Cambodia GSP trade privileges in 1996, along with Most Favoured Nation (MFN) status, which reduces tariffs on eligible products.

The combination of GSP and MFN status has allowed many Cambodian products to access the US market, making them more price competitive against the products of countries that do not enjoy the privileges.

Viscose yarn price sinks as raw material price weakens

In China, mainstream prices of 40s compact siro-spun yarn in Jiangsu were down US cents 2 a kg from in the second week of November while 30s spun viscose in Xiaoshan fell US cent 1 a kg.

Spun viscose yarn prices weakened in China that week reflecting the past week’s moderation in VSF prices.

Market prices for ring-spun 30s yarn were down while siro-spun yarn were stable to weak.

Cashmere-type yarns enjoyed good profit margins, with prices on the uptrend. Seeing inventory building up, yarn makers were under increased liquidity pressure.

Punjab spinning industry pushed in crisis due to difference in VAT rate

Spinning mill owners of Ludhiana demand level playing field with their counterparts in other states as the spinning industry of Punjab is dying and already in huge debts, units are closing down owing to losses on account of lack of orders. Punjab government is held responsible for pushing them in a crisis by not reducing rates of value added tax (VAT) on yarn that they manufacture.
