TCP scraps second cotton tender as it received offer below reserved price

Trading Corporation of Pakistan (TCP’s) issued second cotton tender on August 1, 2015 to offload remaining 88,600 cotton bales (crop year 2016-15) including 1,000 bales of super grade, 24,200 of grade-one 62,400 of grade-two and 1,000 cotton bales of grade-three, after the sale of 6,800 cotton bales through first cotton tender, which was scrapped as it received offers lower than the reserve price set for the sale of the commodity.

The Pakistan cotton market on Tuesday amid curtails in supply of seed cotton, causing increase in rate, witnessed some active buying from mills. The official spot rate was higher by Rs 50 to Rs 4,500, while seed cotton prices in Sindh were at Rs 2200 and Rs 2400 and in Punjab rates were at Rs 1800 and Rs 2500, dealers said.

In the ready business, around 15,000 bales of cotton changed hands between Rs 4475 and Rs 4800. The prices moved up slightly due to slight fall in supply of phutti.

Sri Lanka is likely to regain the GSP plus trade concession from European Union for garments exports, government said, five years after the nation lost the trade concession over its failure to meet the criteria on human rights concerns.

Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe gave assurance that Sri Lanka will regain the GSP plus trade concession from the European Union when he met local and foreign garment industry officials at Temple Trees yesterday. He said that no fresh conditions have been made. They have been working very closely with the EU.

Paraxylene price goes down in Asian markets

Paraxylene prices in Asian markets fell in the last week of July after being lifted the previous week while a partial contract price settlement was reached by Idemitsu, Yisheng. However, the Curve flipped into contango as turnarounds loomed large. Mixed xylene prices also declined on softer upstream and downstream markets.

In Europe, paraxylene prices rose week on week as mixed xylene sellers remained and was at a premium to August gasoline. US paraxylene spot market tracked falling Asian numbers while demand stayed low amid poor economics and spot assessments fell week over week.
