Steep fluctuation in silk prices witnessed in India

Close to 810 sericulture farmers in Coimbatore district find themselves in state of despair due to the steep fluctuation in prices. Since June, the prices have been fluctuating so abruptly, that it even goes as low as Rs170 per kg. Unless the farmers sell it for a minimum Rs300 per kg, they are unable to feed their families.

Pulp price moves up in China despite weak interest by viscose makers

Pulp suppliers tended to raise their indications numbers, with that hardwood and softwood pulp were both up US$20 a ton in the last week of July. However, no deals were concluded at those levels since downstream viscose makers showed thin interest.

In China, dissolving pulp prices moved up. Suppliers were unwilling to sell at less than their increased prices which were up US$10 a ton from last week. Downstream reaction was insipid. In the imported dissolving pulp market, confirmed fresh offers were limited.

Co-Optex’s eco-friendly saris set new trend in Tamil Nadu

Tamil Nadu Handloom Weaver's Co-operative Society Limited (Co-optex) has introduced eco friendly saris which are woven using cotton cultivated without using fertilizers or pesticides. This type of cotton is dubbed 'organic' and when dyed with chemical free natural or vegetable colours, the fabric becomes non-toxic, non-allergic and environment-friendly.

Senior Regional Manager of Co-optex, K Yuvraj said that the cotton saris are woven by traditional weavers of Negammam area in Coimbatore. These were first introduced in Tamil Nadu followed by Andhra Pradesh.

Local cotton markets in Pakistan witnessed drop in cotton price to one month low

Local cotton markets in Pakistan witnessed drop in price of cotton to one month low at Rs4,800/maund (37.324 kilograms) as textile mill owners avoided bulk buying on Thursday.

The Karachi Cotton Association kept its official rate unchanged for the third consecutive working day at Rs4,500/maund. It reported maximum price at Rs4,780/maund from Rs4,825/maund a day ago.

Traders bought 9,400 bales at Rs4,550 to 4,780/maund as compared to 10,200 bales bought at Rs4,500 to Rs4,825/maund a day ago, the Association added.

Lakshmi Machine Works, major textile machinery manufacturer and the only company in Asia outside Europe to manufacture OE products for Mikron of Switzerland feels that southern markets are attractive market for its range of products.

According to R Rajendran, Chief Financial Officer and Director (Finance), LMW, more than 40 percent of their textile machinery sale is in the south zone. While new projects are slow in coming and Greenfield projects even fewer in number, the existing mills are doing well and going for marginal expansion/ modernisation.

Viscose price increase slows down considerably in Asia

Viscose staple fibre markets in Asia saw upward momentum slowing down considerably during the last week of July, with offers sporadically up marginally. In China, fresh orders of medium-end goods could hardly be balanced, but inventory remained lean on support of previous orders, thus balancing the demand-supply status.

Chief minister Naveen Patnaik on Thursday at the foundation stone laying ceremony of Shahi Exports here at Mancheswar industrial estate announced that the Odisha government has been contemplating to set up two integrated textile parks at Choudwar and Bhadrak.

Naveen also announced that the state government has made special arrangement for textile and handloom sectors in the new industrial policy resolution to encourage investment in textile and handloom sectors.

The government of India, under the 12th five year plan has earmarked sum of Rs500 crore for the textile industry to meet the required environmental standards by adopting modern technology, Lok Sabha was informed today.

The Ministry of Textiles, Government of India will be implementing an Integrated Processing Development Scheme (IPDS) in public private partnership (PPP) mode by Special Purpose Vehicle (SPV), which will be a corporate body registered under the Companies Act, Textiles minister Santosh Kumar Gangwar said responding to questions in the House.
