Bangladesh has earned $527.16m from its exports to Indian market in FY 2014-15 a rise by 15.45% compared to $456.63m in the last fiscal year as some products including textiles got duty and quota-free access, according to Export Promotion Bureau data.

Readymade garment export to the neighbouring country also increased by 8.31% to $104.25m in the year compared to $96.25m in the previous year.

Buyers at lint market made forward deals due to poor grade and low volume

During the trading sessions in the past week, buyers at the lint market made forward deals on the back of grade issue and low volumes at around Rs 4,600 per maund to Rs 4,625 per maund, traders said on Saturday.

The buyers remained eager for fine grades at main stations of Punjab and Sindh, while majority of the ginneries produced all grades on the back of moderate influx of cottonseed.

Prices remained within reach of the buyers amid some cautious activity. The Karachi Cotton Association’s (KCA’s) spot rate remained firm to stay at Rs 4,500 per maund.

Government has set its sights on the development in the organised and unorganised sectors of the textile industry, which is one of the mainstays of the national economy. Setting up integrated textile parks, increasing export, development of handlooms, promotion of handicrafts and increasing sericulture are some of the elements the government has stressed upon.

The Maharashtra state government considering the massive unrest amongst the farmers in drought-hit region of Vidarbha, Marathwada and some parts of northern Maharashtra has taken the decision to expand the textile hub policy to nine districts across the state to override the farmers suicides in cotton growing belt.

The decision to accord textile industry has taken as it is second most important status after agriculture. The districts which have been shortlisted for developing into textile hubs are Yavatmal, Buldhana, Amravati, Jalna, Parbhani, Nanded, Aurangabad, Beed and Jalgaon.
