High Commissioner of Nigeria Dauda Danladi speaking at a meeting here at the Lahore Chamber of Commerce & Industry on Thursday urged the Pakistani entrepreneurs to explore the huge untapped potential of Nigeria.

He also invited the Pakistani businessmen to enter into joint ventures with their Nigerian counterparts in the fields of textile, manufacturing and agriculture.

He further said that easing of visa process between the two countries could increase the bilateral trade in shortest possible time.

Strike has been called by Bhiwandi powerlooms since Monday demanding control on yarn prices and permission to export cloth . Approximately 9 lakh people are dependent on Bhiwandi’s powerlooms and related businesses of which nearly three-fourths of the 9 lakh powerloom units in Maharashtra’s Bhiwandi are on strike. The strike aims at ensuring less cloth is sent to the market, which may result in prices increasing.

PTA price in Asia faces the brunt of sluggish demand

Purified terephthalic acid prices in Asian markets slipped in the first week of August amid bearish downstream polyester markets as end-users remained sluggish, expecting the lack of buying interest to pressurize spot prices through August. Hengli Petrochemical made an announcement midweek that it was shutting two of its PTA units in China.

The import of silk from China, and illegal trade has been affecting the farmers in Tamil Nadu. In support of the farmers, the Silk Cocoon Manufactures Association on Tuesday picketed the office of Director of Sericulture, demanding that the State Government should pay Rs. 50 a kg as incentive to cocoon farmers.

As the Director of Sericulture had gone to Chennai to attend a meeting, they submitted a petition to officials.

The association president, Shanmuga Sundaram, said that the earlier import duty of 40 per cent for silk from China has been brought down to 10 per cent.

Minimum price of cotton lint, seed fixed at Rs3000 per 40 kg by NA

The minimum intervention price of cotton lint and seed was finalized at Rs. 3000 per 40 kilograme for financial year 2015-16 on the recommendations of API, who stated that after considering 35 cost parameters, they have calculated that the cost of sowing 40 kg of cotton crop adds up to Rs.3000 by the National Assembly Standing Committee on Textiles on Wednesday.
