Chinese delegation visit Sri Lanka to enlighten apparel sector on CNS

A conference was organized last week in Sri Lanka with the participation of the delegation and members of the textile industry where a three team members delegation representing the Chinese government were present to brief on the Chinese regulations and testing standards, and trends in global textile testing.

The Chinese market is vast and growing but many countries have failed to break into the textile market due to the lack of knowledge of their standards. Their standards are different to the standards adopted by other countries.

Tamil Nadu Minister for Handlooms and Textiles S. The newly elected chairman M Senthil Kumar of Southern India Mills’ Association (SIMA) at its 56th Annual General Meeting held yesterday, said that as the textile industry was equiped with excess production capacity it first and foremost urgently requires market access policy to have a level playing field in global markets.

Therefore, the government should expedite conclusion of Free Trade Agreements with China, EU, Australia, Canada and other countries and gain market access, he added.

Dallas company Nextt, the marketing arm of Mumbai, India-based Alok Industries has received patent for a weaving process that combines polyester yarns with cotton to create a high-thread count fabric that is 30 to 40 percent cheaper than 100 percent cotton. The patent covers yarn and fabric made of at least 51 percent cotton.

The fabric is called Alpha Cotton, a trademarked name, and is used primarily for making sheets. It is already garnering annual sales of about $1 billion, which is expected to grow to more than $2 billion within the next two years.
