Designer Sanjay Garg to open Spring-Summer edition of AIFW 2016

Debutant designer Sanjay Garg of the Raw Mango brand will open the spring-summer edition of Amazon India Fashion Week (AIFW) 2016 starting October 7 to bridge the gap between textile and fashion and at the same time blur the categories of traditional and modern, old and new, past and present. .

The garments present technical advancements in Mashru [a type of weave] that make the old textile contemporary, while retaining the luxuriousness that has always been an important part of it, Garg said.

Cotton production likely to remain uncertain due to volatile weather

The cotton production outlook remains uncertain, as the weather is still volatile. With the current cotton year ending on September 30, the total stocks at the dawn of the new season would be around 83 lakh bales (170 kg). Of this around 18-20 lakh bales will lie with government agencies. Cotton spot price have already started to decline.

Last year, Cotton Corporation of India procured record quantities of about 87 lakh bales under its minimum support operations. Of these, about 70 lakh bales are expected to be auctioned before the season ends.

The race is on for Vietnam’s clothing makers to find the right suppliers as its own textile mills only produce a fifth of the country’s needs today. With the Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP) agreement being negotiated Vietnam is seeing a wave of investment from foreign textile and garment manufacturers keen to cash in on the tax benefits of the upcoming TPP.

The agreement being negotiated by 12 countries, including the US, promises major tax cuts for Vietnam’s garment exports, but only if they use fabric made locally or in other TPP countries, which excludes China.

Viscose spun yarn prices continue upward trend

In China, siro-spun 30s yarn in Jiangsu was up US cents 4 a kg in the third week of September while rayon weaving yarn 30s in Xiaoshan was up US cents 7 on the week.

Spun viscose yarn sentiment was stable to firm this week in China. Orders for vortex-spun yarn were favorable, leading to better performance and in turn improved demand for VSF. In northern regions, the mills mainly bought need based volume, with some in Gaomi planning 3-7 days for National Day celebration.

Blended yarn price rolls over in Asia

In Qianqing, PC (65/35) 32s yarn prices rolled over while 21s were up US cent 1 a kg in the third week of September. Blended yarn markets sentiment held firm during the week, with prices largely unchanged in China. However, PSF prices were on the downtrend whereas VSF prices were increasing further. Downstream fabric market sustained the stable movements, and trading activities are likely to pick up with some mills reducing run rates.

Rajasthan Chief Minsiter Vasundhara Raje will be inaugurating the fourth International Apparel and Textile fair "Vastra-2015" tomorrow, and Union Minister of State for Textile (Independent charge) Santosh Gangwar will be the guest of honour, an official spokesman said today.

The three day fair will have around 300 overseas buyers from 56 countries participating. The participants will be from the US, the UK, Japan, Australia, France, Portugal, Spain, Italy, Denmark, Bulgaria, Africa, South Africa, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, China, Turkey, Canada and the UAE, among others.

SIMA to set up two textile parks to increase textile processing capacity

The Southern India Mills’ Association (SIMA) will be focusing on four major issues in the next two years – improving the cost competitiveness of the industry and getting the Centre to make raw material available at international prices, especially synthetic fibre, address market access problems, and promote value addition, the newly elected chairman of SIMA, M. Senthilkumar said.

SIMA will promote two textile processing parks in the State that will increase the textile processing capacity in Tamil Nadu by 350 tonnes to 400 tonnes a day.
