Suzhou Glacier Import & Export Co. Ltd, a Chinese global textile manufacturer plans to set up a new plant in Travelers Rest, it will be the first factory outside of China for the company that will make textiles for the automotive industry.

The company’s president, Wilber Xu, said that the company will be investing $24 million to open a new manufacturing facility in a 170,000 square foot existing building. It is expected to hire 109 people in the new jobs.

Xu said that his company was attracted to Greenville County by low business costs and a good market potential.

To boost Chinese investment in Cambodian garment industry, the Textile Enterprise Association of the Chinese Chamber of Commerce also know as TEAC has been officially launched in Phnom Penh.

Enjoy Ho, chairman of TEAC said that they will represent the interests of Chinese textile enterprises in Cambodia and reflect their reasonable demands to the government.

According to Ho, investors from China, Hong Kong and Taiwan account for about 70 per cent of the garment and footwear factories in Cambodia.

Due to long week-end on account of Eid-ul-Azha holidays, business remained passive on the cotton market on Tuesday, dealers said. Leading buyers kept on the sidelines. In the ready business, around 8,000 bales of cotton changed hands between Rs 4750 and Rs 4900.

In Sindh, seed cotton prices recovered overnight gains, rising by Rs 50 to Rs 2350 and Rs 2450 and in Punjab prices were at Rs 2300 and Rs 2450. While the official spot rate maintained overnight level at Rs 4,700, dealers said.
