Caprolactum price rises on improved demand

In China, offers for liquid goods edged up US$25-30 a ton in the second week of September, and discussions were up US$10-20 a ton. Asian markers, the SE and FE were stable during the week. Sinopec announced September contract price which was up US$125 a ton from August settlement for liquid goods while DSM Nanjing’s nomination was up US$10 a ton from August for solid goods.

Nylon yarn market stablises in China

In China, semi-dull FDY70D/24F prices inched up US cent 1 a kg in the second week of September while FDY40D gained US cents 4 a kg. Nylon DTY 70D/24F prices were stable while DTY 30D/10F prices also rolled over. Monofilament 30D was stable and staple fiber 1.5D was down US cents 7 a kg.

Pakistan is the fifth largest producer of cotton in the world, the third largest exporter of raw cotton, the fourth largest consumer of cotton and the largest exporter of cotton yarn in the world. Pakistani cotton and cotton products contribute about 11 percent to gross domestic product and 56 percent to the foreign exchange earnings. However, the governments have failed to implement the ban on the use of jute and polypropylene bags for the transportation of seed cotton.

Viscose spun yarn price rises in China

In China, compact siro-spun 40s yarn in Jiangsu was up US cents 5 a kg in the second week of September while rayon weaving yarn 30s in Xiaoshan also rose US cents 5 a kg. Spun viscose yarn market sentiment was stable to firm, with prices of vortex-spun and siro-spun yarn firming up while they were unchanged for ring-spun and rotor-spun yarn. Offers were reported higher for rayon yarn due to rising VSF costs. VSF prices in China have risen more than 3.5 per cent in local currency and 4 per cent in US$ terms in the first two weeks of September.

Blended yarn price edges down in India

In India, polyester-cotton yarn prices dropped 1.7 per cent as both polyester and cotton prices have declined in the second week of September. This also implies that margins have slid at spinning mills, as far as they were not covered. 30s (65/35) PV yarn prices were down US cents 2 a kg on the week in Indore market. PC 30s (52/48) prices fell US cents 4 a kg on the week in Ludhiana market.

Pakistan enjoys less duty-free access to US despite being the biggest export destination

The United States is Pakistan’s biggest export destination, during the last three years, the annual trade balance has been around $2 billion in favour of Pakistan and one of the few countries where Pakistan enjoys a substantial trade surplus.

Pakistan’s exports predominantly comprise textile made-ups with shipments of home textile standing at more than $1 billion and accounting for about 10% market share in the total US global imports of $13 billion. In 2014, Pakistan exported goods worth $3.6 billion and imported $1.5 billion of goods from the US.

Centre initiated non tariff intervention measure to curb jute imports

Under the SAARC treaty, there is zero duty on import of jute goods from Bangladesh, thereby creating a non level playing field between jute manufacturers of India and Bangladesh. The Centre has initiated non-tariff intervention to curb unabated jute imports, specially from Bangladesh.

According to a recent notice issued by the office of the Jute Commissioner, registration of the importers stands cancelled and the traders to whom the importers sell the imported jute/jute products and the end-users will have to re-register their units in a given format.
