VN garment industry eyes to achieve $34b export target

Le Tien Truong, general director of the Vietnam National Garment and Textile Group (Vinatex), speaking at a meeting on reporting Vinatex’s results of production and business in Ha Noi on Tuesday said that to achieve the target of more than 10 percent growth in 2018, the textile and garment industry must make great efforts to focus further on solutions to increase labour productivity also the local textile and garment industry must be careful with the anti-dumping story.

Nylon yarn prices to edge down further

In China, nylon FDY70D/24F and FDY40D SD prices fell US cents 6 a kg in the third week of December. Nylon DTY 70D/24F prices were down US cents 6 a kg on the week. Monofilament 30D prices were stable while nylon staple fiber 1.5D prices rolled over during the week.

Caprolactum prices remain firm in Asia

The SE and FE Asian caprolactum markers on the lower end were stable in the third week of December. In China, spot liquid good offers were largely unchanged as compared to last week while solid goods were firm on the week.

Caprolactum prices in Asia were firm despite weakening benzene market during the week. In China, CPL offers were mostly stable that week while plant run rates fell to 81.9%.

RIL commissions the world's largest ROGC at Jamnagar

Reliance Industries Limited (RIL) completing its multi-billion-dollar expansion of largest operating refinery off-gas cracker (ROGC) world’s largest off-gas cracker facility at its Jamnagar complex. This has also doubled RIL’s ethylene production capacity, which is now close to 4 MMTPA at five of its manufacturing sites. RIL joins the distinguished league of top 5 petrochemical producers globally.

With this, Jamnagar in Gujarat has also become home to the world’s largest operating refinery off-gas cracker, RIL said in a statement.

Rising cotton prices continued with shortage of quality lint unabated on Tuesday, with rates of the commodity soaring to Rs8,100 per maund – the highest for the ongoing season so far. Brokers said that ginners have started to hold back their stocks, anticipating that the prices would move higher in coming days, creating artificial shortage and they would reap even bigger profits.

The Surat-based textile industry is still reeling under the goods and services tax (GST) impact. The current production is down to 2.5mn meter against 40 mn metres per day in the Rs 500 bn synthetic textile hub of Surat. Similarly in the weaving sector, against a Rs 600-million daily turnover in the pre-GST era, the same is still down by 50 percent.
