Bivoltine silk likely to see rise in production by 19pc in 2017-18

The Ministry of Textiles has provided an official statement of rise in production of bivotine silk in the country in 2017-18. Registering an increase of 19 percent the production may rise to around 6,200 million tonnes (MT) in 2017-18 as compared to 5,266 MT a year ago.

The ministry said Muga silk has recorded highest ever production of 170 MT and has acquired a new growth momentum. It added that Bivoltine silk production has grown by 105 per cent in the last three years and has enabled substantial import substitution.

High demand for cotton in the domestic as well as international market has soared the happiness of cotton farmers of Saurashtra,the hub of cotton farming. Demand for cotton in Pakistan, China, Vietnam and Indonesia has gone up considerably, pushing the price of cotton by around Rs 400 per quintal in the last one week.

Against the MSP plus bonus price of Rs 954, cotton farmers are now getting Rs 1,100 per cotton bale in the market yards with commitments of around four lakh bales being placed.

Nylon yarn prices roll over in Asia

In China, nylon FDY70D/24F SD prices were stable in the second week of December, while FDY40D rolled over on the week. Nylon DTY 70D/24F and 30D/10F prices were flat during the week.

Monofilament 30D prices were steady while nylon staple fiber 1.5D prices unchanged on the week.

Caprolactum prices rise amid adequate supply

The SE and FE Asian caprolactum markers on the lower end were up US$20 a ton in the second week of December. In China, spot liquid good offers rose US$20 a ton as compared to last week while solid goods were up US$5 a ton on the week.

Caprolactum prices in Asia rose on support from benzene market amid balanced supply during the week. In China, CPL offers were up that week as demand was decent given firmer feedstock prices. Overall, caprolactum market is likely to firm up in coming weeks on support from benzene market, however demand is expected to decrease.

Pakistan’s total exports of the textile sector reached $5.51bn in July-November against $5.11bn a year ago, reflecting an increase of 7.66pc.
