The Union Cabinet chaired by the Prime Minister Narendra Modi recently approved the extension norm for mandatory packaging to be done in Jute Material, Under the mandatory packing norm, 90 percent of food grains and over 20 percent of sugar products are to be packed in jute.

This move is being seen as a welcoming step by the industries involved in Jute business, Indian Jute Mills Association President Manish Poddar said, as the extension is certainly a positive decision for the jute manufacturing units.

Kenya government due to low cotton production, imports substantial amounts of cotton lint and seed cake for local textile mills and feed manufacture mainly from Tanzania that produces 15 times and Uganda whose output five times of Kenya’s production respectively every year.

The government as part of its efforts towards reviving the industry will start importing certified seeds from Israel to distribute to local small-scale cotton farmers.

At the Karachi Cotton Exchange on Wednesday, trading continued to remain slow while spot rates increased Rs200/maund to Rs7,800/maund (37.324kg) and Rs8,359/40kg. Ex-Karachi rates also rose to Rs7,945/maund and Rs8,514/40kg after an addition of Rs145 and Rs155 as upcountry expenses, respectively.

A total of eight transactions were recorded of around 13,000 bales at a price of Rs8,000 to Rs8,100/maund. Deals were recorded from Ghotki, Kot Sabzal, Liaquatpur, Khanpur, Rahimyar Khan, Mian Channu, Rajanpur and DG Khan.

Uzbekistan textile worth over $1 bn exported in 2017

Uzbekistan textile industry exported its products worth $1.1 billion to more than 50 countries in the world 2017 and the share of value-added products exceeded 40 percent. The growth of export indicators was facilitated by the activity of 64 trading houses which were opened in foreign countries,,an Uzbek news agency reported quoting statistics from the Association of Textile and Clothing and Textile Industries Enterprises (Uztekstilprom).

Egypt’s home textiles exports increased 4.8 percent reaching $664 million in January-November 2017 period against $443 million registered in the same period last year, according to the Egyptian Home Textiles Export Council (HTEC), under the ministry of foreign trade and industry. Turkey was the largest importer of Egyptian textiles, followed by Italy, Saudi Arabia, Tunisia, Germany and Portugal.

Mozambique to revitalize its cotton industry is now developing its own national standard for sustainable cotton production, which will mirror the principles and criteria developed by Better Cotton Initiative (BCI).

The Mozambique government has partnered with the BCI. The 2014 strategic partnership agreement was signed by the Cotton Institute of Mozambique (IAM) and BCI embeds the Better Cotton principles and criteria within Mozambique’s national regulations for cotton growing.

The Pakistan's cotton arrival trends during last fortnight, showing above the market expectations, at least 422,738 cotton bales of 160 kilograms each reached ginning factories during the last fortnight, as per the industry data showed on Wednesday.

According to a consolidated statement of cotton arrivals in factories around the country till January 1, total cotton arrival at ginning stage has so far reached at 11.108 million bales, a seven percent increase in volume compared with the same period a year ago.
