Vingroup, which has its own retail brand VinMart, has acquired a 100 percent stake to become the new owner of Maximark, the Hanoi-based firm. The acquisition includes nine Maximark outlets and other properties which previously belonged to Ho Chi Minh City-based An Phong Investment JSC.

All of these nine outlets will become members of either the VinMart or Vincom Retail chains operated by Vingroup after the acquisition is completed.

The Rajasthan State Industrial Development and Investment Corporation (RIICO) had allotted land at Chitroli in Bagru to the 173 textile units that were found infeasible to connect with the common effluent treatment plant (CETP). They claim that all units including these 173, operating in Sanganer can be linked with the proposed CETP. The deadline for applying for the plots at Chitroli was October 15. But no unit owner applied for it.

Viscose yarn price rise slows down in Asia

In China, 40s compact siro-spun yarn in Jiangsu were steady in the third week of October while 30s spun viscose in Xiaoshan were up US cent 1 a kg on the week.

Spun viscose yarn prices were largely stable across markets with some specs inching up in China as viscose staple fibre markets continued to remain firm.

High end VSF were priced higher. However, viscose yarn producers showed stronger sidelined stance after Xinjiang Aoyang restarted VSF unit.

Order intakes were just passable in general but a bit weak compared with last month.

Blended yarn price edges up in India

Yarn prices in India stayed unchanged or slightly increased in the third week of October.

While PSF and VSF prices rolled over, cotton prices have rebounded INR100-500 per candy during the week, although they were significantly lower than in September.

In India, 30s (65/35) PV yarn prices were up US cents 2 a kg, due to stronger INR, in Indore market. In Ludhiana, PC 30s (52/48) prices were also up US cent 1 a kg on the week.

In Qianqing, PC (65/35) 32s yarn prices remained unchanged on the week while 21s were steady.

Cotton ginners protest against non-payment of full tax refund

In Haryana, cotton ginners went on strike to protest against alleged disparity in tax structure.

“We are striking and protesting against the state government as they did not solve our issue relating to refund of tax on inter-state sale of cotton crop,” said Sushil Mittal, president of Haryana Cotton Ginners Association.

Nearly 144 cotton ginners in Haryana went on strike which has affected the purchase of crops in mandis.

“Everyday around 5,000 bales arrive in mandis for sale but we are not buying the crop,” he said.

The Eyptian government to protect cotton cultivation has allocated 300 million EGP to buy the total cotton crop production during this season, Agriculture Minister Essam Fayed said.

This season so far about 200 million kilograms of cotton were produced. The government will pay each farmer 1,100 EGP ($170) for a quintal (100kg) of cotton grown in Upper Egypt and 1,250 EGP per a quintal of long staple cotton grown in the Delta.
