Zimbabwe textile industry operating below capacity in first half of the year

Zimbabwe government is yet to gazette Statutory Instruments (Sis) discouraging cheap imports of textile products into the country due to which the local textile industry has been operating at below 30% of capacity in the first-half of the year, said Zimbabwe Textile Manufacturers’ Association (ZTMA) secretary-general Raymond Huni

The government is in the process of gazetting the SIs enforcing the rebates introduced by the Finance minister (Patrick Chinamasa). They hope that the SI would be gazetted in two weeks’ time and it’s only after that they will start realizing some changes.

Blended yarn price inches up in India

Blended yarn prices were steady to up in Asian markets in the fourth week of October.

In India, prices gained on domestic demand while exports were weak.

30s (65/35) PV yarn prices were flat in Indore market.

In Ludhiana, PC 30s (52/48) prices gained US cents 3 a kg on the week.

In September, blended spun yarns export were down 16 per cent YoY while volumes fell 9 per cent.

In Pakistan, prices were increasing on the domestic markets on demand recovery from the textile producers and the rebound of cotton prices.

APTMA clarifies the govt’s decision of imposing 10% duty on textile

All Pakistan Textile Mills Association (APTMA) Central Chairman Tariq Saud stated that the government’s decision of imposing regulatory duty of 10% on yarn and fabric is sensible and based on thorough facts.

Around 40% capacity of spinning, weaving and processing mills has become impaired, closed and inoperative.

In this situation, the government’s decision would play a crucial role in saving the textile industry of Pakistan to come out of the crisis, said Tariq.

Pakistan’'s raw cotton exports during the first quarter of current fiscal year (FY16) registered a 10 percent growth due to lower commodity prices in the domestic market and higher demand on the international front. India, Indonesia and Vietnam were leading buyers of Pakistani cotton.

Bangladesh also procured some commodity during the first three months of this fiscal year, when prices were less than Rs 4,800 per maund in the domestic market. They procured some quantity from Pakistan to meet their demand as Indian cotton crop arrives after Pakistan''s crop.

At Pakistan cotton market on Thursday focus was more seen on fine grade as buyers remained eager for quality lint and made deals on slightly higher prices at around Rs5,525 per maund during the trading session. Around 3,900 bales changed hands. The Karachi Cotton Association (KCA) spot rate unchanged Rs 5,400 per maund.

According to a senior trader, Ghulam Rabbani, buyers and sellers remained entangled in price war on second grade stuff and buyers bought the grade at around Rs 5,175 per maund to cater their immediate need.
