Hemp touted to be a billion-dollar industry in the West has so far received little recognition in India because it is often confused with marijuana. But inside a cluttered office in one of Lower Parel's mill compounds, is a company dreaming of another green revolution. They are the team that runs India's first industrial hemp startup Bombay Hemp Company (BOHECO).

Sanvar Oberoi, one of the cofounders said that the textile ministry claims industrial hemp fibre can rake in a potential revenue of approximately Rs 240 crore annually.

The U.S. government released the final text outlining the Trans-Pacific Partnership trade deal between the United States and 11 other Pacific Rim countries after years of negotiation. This is the final word that puts everything into a clearer light although many had a general idea of what the Trans-Pacific Partnership would be like.

The National Council of Textile Organizations, based in Washington, D.C., and representing U.S. textile mills, said in a statement that it would start an in-depth review of the agreement.

State government urged to speed up on approvals for textile parks

The state governments urged to speed up approvals in setting up of textile parks, till now 72 textile parks have been sanctioned under the Scheme for Integrated Textile Parks (SITP), which are expected to provide employment to 4.5 lakh people with an investment of Rs 30,000 crore. This was informed by the Textile Minister Gangwar while addressing the state textile minister’s conference.

He also pointed out that there are difficulties in getting environmental clearances in several states. Hence urge the state governments to show interest on this issue and expedite much-needed clearances.

Polyester spun yarn price inches up in Pakistan

In Pakistan, 30s spun polyester prices in October were up PakRs2 on the month at PakRs110 per pound or US$2.33 a kg (up US cents 2).

Polyester yarn prices in Pakistan increased on the domestic markets, with a recovery in demand from the textile producers and the rebound of cotton prices.

Polyester spun yarn prices in China were largely steady in the fourth week of October, and some deals finally concluded. Demand for spun polyester yarn was thin, and some sporadic lots changed hands.

PTA price recovers in Asia

Asian PTA prices regained US$12 a ton CFR China in the fourth week of October.

In China, suppliers kept offers at US$620-640 a ton, and buyers pegged counter offers at US$590-600 a ton.

Yisheng Petrochemical issued daily cash-based price for PTA up US$10 to US$640 a ton, with no enquiries for arrived or to-arrive-at-port cargoes for the moment.

Hengli Petrochemical issued self-lifting offer for bonded cargoes on one-day trip at Chinese main ports at US$630 a ton.

Textile mills in Pakistan suffering losses due to high cost of electricity

During the last three and a half months, over one million spindles capacity has been closed down in Pakistan mainly because of the unbearable high cost of doing business, said Tariq Saud, chairman of All Pakistan Textile Mills Association (APTMA).

He said that all these spindles were predominantly contributing to the exports of the country.

New Zealand's wool, leather and textile sectors export $621 million worth of products annually. Cotton prices remained lower on Wednesday as ginners fearing further decline in lint prices having long position rushed to unload their stocks at Pakistan cotton market.

According to floor brokers, slow moving cotton demand from spinners in front of lower export orders for yarn and high prices of cotton compared to import parity kept prices under pressure.

The situation is highly perplexed because short crop and poor demand from China owning to high cost of Pakistani yarn against Indian and Vietnamese variety kept trading activity slow and restricted.
