The textile ministry during the 35th edition of India International Trade Fair (IITF) that kicked off at Pragati Maidan, New Delhi on Nov 14, Saturday, at a high note launched brand made its market debut with handloom products from registered sellers. During the inauguration of Intex South Asia International Apparel Fabrics and Accessories Exhibition at Sri Lanka Exhibition and Convention Centre yesterday, it was disclosed that Sri Lanka aims to be among the top 10 high quality supplier countries in the world by 2020.

The district administration of Tamil Nadu to support the livelihood of the handloom weaver has urged power loom owners to abstain from producing notified items in the reserved list or face action.

Collector V. Dakshinamoorthy said that the Central Government had enforced the Handlooms (Reservation of Articles for Production) Act, 1985 and reserved 11 textile articles that must only be produced in handlooms.

The domestic cotton prices are higher than the minimum support price (MSP) in many parts of the country, which means Cotton Corporation of India (CCI) will have to buy cotton at higher prices this year.

The prices are lower in some states due to 35 lakh bales of surplus stocks and weak export demand. However prices are higher in north because of whitefly pest attack. Currently, the prices are the highest in Punjab at Rs 4,500 a quintal, while it is Rs 4,400 in Gujarat and Rs 4,200 in Maharashtra and Telangana.

In Qianqing, PC (65/35) 32s yarn prices were up US cent 1 a kg in the first week of November while 45s PC combed yarn prices were stable.

Prices of blended yarn declined in line with fibre prices in recent weeks. In China, polyester-cotton generally rolled over but there is a possibility of a decline in coming weeks.

In India, polyester-cotton prices declined 1.5% in Ludhiana whereas polyester-viscose was lost a tad in Indore.

30s (65/35) PV yarn prices were down US cents 2 a kg in the wee in Indore market. In Ludhiana, PC 30s (52/48) prices fell US cents 4 on the week.

In China, mainstream prices of 40s compact siro-spun yarn in Jiangsu were down US cent 1 a kg in the first week of November.

30s spun viscose in Xiaoshan were also down US cent 1 a kg on the week.

Spun viscose yarn prices were stable to weak across markets as VSF prices have started weakening, particularly in China. However, discounts were available in large deal negotiations.

Sales for siro-spun yarn were healthy, with discounts cancelled at some sellers with inventory decreasing. Selling ideas were reportedly stable for viscose yarn.
