Textile units pushing for marine discharge system

Most of the textile processing parks in the State likely to be hit by the Central government’s proposal of making zero liquid discharge system mandatory for textile units having waste water discharge more than 25 kld (kilo litres a day) as the owners find the cost of implementing zero liquid discharge systems high.

The Centre had issued a draft notification in this regard recently and sought views from the industry.

Buyers at the cotton market remained keen for fine grade quality lint and made deals on slightly higher prices at around Rs5,500 per maund on Monday during the trading session. About 3,000 bales changed hands.

The Karachi Cotton Association (KCA) spot rate unchanged Rs 5,250 per maund.

According to senior trader, Ghulam Rabbani, buyers and sellers remained entangled in price war on second grade stuff. Some buyer to cater their immediate need went ahead to purchase the grade at around Rs 5,225 per maund.

Indian textile company to pay a penalty of $100000 for using pirated software

Pratibha Syntex Ltd, an Indian textile company, has agreed to pay a penalty of US$100,000 (or Rs 66 lakhs) to settle charges of using pirated software that gave it competitive advantages over American businesses.

The company is headquartered in Indore, Madhya Pradesh and exports cloths to top American companies including Walmart.

California Attorney General Kamala Harris said that Pratibha Syntex engaged in illegal business practices that placed California garment companies at a disadvantage, while hurting American software companies' ability to develop new and innovative products.

The textiles and handlooms minister Kollu Ravindra at the inauguration of the National Handlooms Expo along with irrigation minister Devineni Umamaheswara Rao on Sunday assured that government will continue its support to both handlooms as well as power looms for which the Andhra Pradesh government has sanctioned Rs70 crore to setup a mega cluster for comprehensive development of handlooms in Guntur and Prakasam districts.

Ravindra reminded that chief minister N Chandrababu Naidu had already waived Rs110 crore worth loans to weavers in spite of the state being in financial crisis.

Nylon yarn price declines in China

In China, semi-dull FDY70D/24F prices rolled over at US$2.31-2.39 a kg while FDY40D remained unchanged at US$2.47-2.62 a kg in the third week of December.

Nylon DTY 70D/24F prices fell down US cents 5 a kg while DTY 30D/10F fell US cents 10 a kg.

Monofilament 30D remained stable while 1.5D staple fiber further declined US cents 5 a kg.

Nylon filament yarn markets continued to sustain weaknesses while operating pressure was range-bound as caprolactum and nylon chip prices moderated a bit.

Caprolactum price moves down due to weak benzene

In China, liquid good offers in spot market were down US$10 a ton due to weak currency while solid goods fell US$35 a ton in the third week of December.

Sinopec’s December contract nomination was at US$1,635 a ton while DSM Nanjing retained its nomination to US$1,680 a ton for solid goods.

Asian markers, the SE and FE markers slipped US$10 a ton while December contract price for high-end goods was offered at US$1,370-1,430 a ton CFR.

Egypt impose export fee on scrap fabrics to support domestic textile industry

Egypt has witnessed growth in the export of waste fabrics over the past three years, from 43 tons in 2013 to 294 tons in 2015, according to the Trade and Industry Minister Tareq Qabil. Trade and Industry Minister has imposed an export fee of LE3,500 per ton of clippings and scrap fabrics in response to the demands from textile manufacturers.

Blended yarn price sinks in China

In Qianqing, PC (65/35) 32s yarn prices fell US cents 2 a kg while 45s PC combed yarn prices were stable at US$3.32 a kg in the third week of December.

Blended yarn prices fell sharply in China, especially polyester-cotton yarn after resisting to fall for a while.

The fall is explained by the continuous declined in cost of cotton as well as PSF and VSF, with no sight of bottoming out.

In Qianqing, they have lost up to 2-6 cents a kg in the third week. Other yarn prices remained more stable, with better margins at the moment.

Viscose yarn prices plunge in China

In China, mainstream prices of 40s compact siro-spun yarn in Jiangsu fell US cents 8 a kg while 30s spun viscose in Xiaoshan were down US cents 3 a kg in the third week of December.

Spun viscose yarn prices fell in line with VSF prices. Offers for siro-spun 40s yarn mostly dropped while for compact and siro-spun 40s yarn fell significantly.

Discussions for Xiaoshan-origin ring-spun 30s yarn were mostly heard at less than previous week’s level.
