Ministry of Textiles to focus on overall development in handloom sector

An exhibition showcasing an exquisite collection of Indian handloom products was inaugurated on Tuesday by the Union Minister of State for Textiles (I/C), Santosh Kumar Gangwar at National Crafts Museum in New Delhi. S.K. Panda, Secretary (Textiles) and Alok Kumar, Development Commissioner (Handlooms) were also present on the occasion. The exhibition will run from December 22 to 31, 2015.

ASF prices stable in China and India, up in Pakistan

In China, offers for cotton-type staple fiber were stable at US$1.82-2.04 a kg while medium-length staple rolled over at US$1.83-2.04 a kg in the second week of December.

Jilin Chemical Fiber maintained its list prices for December with 1.5D at US$2.04 a kg, 3D medium-length at US$2.04 a kg, tow at US$2.11 a kg and top at US$2.25 a kg.

Taiwan origin 3D bright ASF tow prices were at US$1.60-1.70 a kg.

Acrylic staple fibre markets maintained a stable price curve that week despite upstream, acrylonitrile values jumping, imposing stronger cost pressure.

Acrylonitrile prices surge in Asia

Asian acrylonitrile marker the CFR Far East Asia jumped US$80 a ton while Southeast Asia was up US$20 a ton in the second week of December.

In China, offers for offshore cargoes were up US$50 a ton on the week.

Acrylonitrile prices in Asian markets were driven by demand for scarce prompt cargoes. At the same time, domestic prices in East China hovered at around import parity basis.

Because of the import parity level, several producers estimated offers would be higher than CFR Far East.

Pakistan’s textile industry suffers due to high cost of business

High cost of doing business has started hitting textile industry of Pakistan severely as further closure of operations of the textile mills have been reported to the association, said Tariq Saud, Chairman of All Pakistan Textile Mills Association (APTMA).

In November 2015, exports of cotton yarn and cotton fabric declined by 45% and 22%, respectively against the corresponding period in quantitative terms, which is an overall decline by 15% in value.

MEG price declines in Asia

In the second week of December, Asian MEG markers edged up US$4 weekend but fell US$13 a ton CFR China on the week.

Mono ethylene glycol prices edged up weekend on late short-covering by traders due to plant issues at Shell and Nan Ya Plastics.

However, prices were down on the week as crude oil prices retreated significantly while commodity markets were severely bearish this week. Polyester makers were at new lows.

Paraxylene price dips on weak crude

Asian paraxylene markers fell US$15 a ton FOB Korea and CFR Taiwan/China in the second week of December.

Paraxylene prices dipped back to below November end levels as crude oil markets sank.

Ningbo Zhongjin’s outage however supported prices mid-week. In China, January PTA futures dipped again on the week. Ningbo Zhongjin Petrochemical should be able to restart its refomer may in a week.

In US, paraxylene spot followed Asia lower while activity remained slow in domestic market as production margins declined.

Spot paraxylene fell US$10 a ton FOB USG on the week.

Vietnam's textile and garment exports to the US from January to November 2015 have reached US$9.98 billion, a year-on-year increase of 11.7 percent. It is expected to gain much higher with the Trans Pacific Partnership (TPP) taking effect. According to the Vietnam Textile and Apparel Association (Vitas), during the 11 months, Vietnam’s textile and garment export value to its other major export markets was also optimistic with $3.09 billion to the EU, $2.53 billion to Japan and $1.98 billion to South Korea.

Pakistan textile exports decline by 14.6pc due to external and internal issues

Pakistan exported textile commodities worth $961 million during November as compared to $1.13 billion of the corresponding month of the previous year, decline by 14.6 percent due to both external and internal issues going on in the country. Exports Likely to further tumble in the months to come with the suspension of gas supply to Punjab’s textile mills indefinitely by the government, said an official of the All Pakistan Textile Mills Association.
