Grasim Industries, a flagship company of the Aditya Birla Group plans to invest around Rs 150 crore for product development, R&D and business development in the next fiscal for its viscose staple fibre (VSF) brand Liva launched earlier this year to target retail customers, as the usage of viscose staple fibre (VSF) is already catching up among domestic processors with VSF-made winter collection expected to go up from 20 lakh garments this year to about 50 lakh garments next winter season, said Grasim Industries Managing Director KK Maheshwari .

Umang Hutheesing, Amdavadi textile revivalist and designer invited by the Bahrain National Museum at the exhibition titled “The Magnificent Mahrajahs:Splendour of Indian Royal Costumes to showcase the grandeur and aesthetics of textiles and royal costumes from India at the Bahrain National Museum.

The exhibition was inaugurated on December 21 by Queen Sabeeka bint Ibrahim Al Khalifa, wife of King Hamad, and president of the Supreme Council for Women.

885 textile processing units function without permission in 4 districts

At the review meeting chaired by Minister for Handloom and Textiles S. Gokula Indira to discuss measures for establishing Common Effluent Treatment Plants (CETPs) in the four districts, Erode, Salem, Namkkal and Karur where there are around 2,090 textile processing units of which only 1,007 have expressed their consent for establishing CETPs.

She added that 1,205 units were functioning with the consent from Tamil Nadu Pollution Control Board (TNPCB), while 885 units were functioning without obtaining permission.

Following the incident, Russia introduced a range of sanctions targeting Turkey, ranging from restrictions on visa-free travel to a ban on imports of fabrics and textile products. Vadim Solovyov, the Deputy Chairman of the Duma Committee on constitutional legislation and state construction and a member of the Communist Party warned that the current situation might force Russian textile firms to stop production.
