China as the world's biggest textile manufacturer, especially in low- and medium-end products is also becoming a new market for high-end fashion, but it lacks name brands of its own. However brands like Exception de Mixmind, Jefen, Farina.Z. Mention few people would recognize are creations of the country's top fashion designers. In fact, factories in China churn out clothes for many international brands, including major top-end lines.

Apparel Export Promotion Council (AEPC) to boost exports is planning roadmap and would prepare a strategy to accelerate export growth rate in preferential markets for which it will take steps like tapping new markets and facilitating availability of raw material.

AEPC Chairman Ashok G Rajani said that the council would also work to achieve the textile export target of USD 30 billion.

Vietnam’s garments and textiles sector this year did not receive any major FDI projects in the face of previously two years of surging investment in the industry. Alone last year, the sector attracted up to $1 billion in FDI for three major projects including Hyosung Đồng Nai (Turkey), Polytex Far Eastern (Taiwan) and Worldon ViệtnNam (Hong Kong).

According to Nguyễn Hồng Giang, general secretary of ViệtnNam Cotton and Spinning Association, the year 2015 marked a record high for investment in the sector as investors wanted to take advantage of opportunities presented by the new FTAs.

MEG price slips in Asia, US

Asian MEG prices fell US$7 a ton CFR China and CFR South East Asia in the third week of June. Mono ethylene glycol prices fell on the week on negative outlook and futures in the first three days of the week but shored up by active buying week-end as traders sought to cover some short positions for H2 June and H1 July.

In US, MEG spot slips on bearishness in Asia while spot supply showed some signs of tightness, but demand to export was not strong enough to significantly impact the market. US spot MEG fell US cent 0.75 per pound FOB USG on the week.

Paraxylene price falls amid softening upstream cost

Asian paraxylene markers were down US$18 a ton FOB Korea while CFR Taiwan/China lost US$18.50 a ton in the third week of June.

Paraxylene prices in Asian markets declined on the week as upstream cost softens simultaneously with weakening demand from PTA makers amid increased supply. In China, Hanbang shuts its PTA plant while South Korea’s May exports rose 34% on the month.

Garment export of India estimated at $16.80 billion now, expected to reach to $20 billion (nearly Rs 1.33 lakh crore) during the current fiscal, helped by the new initiatives announced by the government for the sector, an industry official said.

The Union Cabinet last week approved a Rs 6,000 crore special package for textiles and apparel sector with an aim to create one crore new jobs in three years and attract investments of $11 billion with an eye on $30 billion in exports.

Union Textile Minister Santosh Kumar Gangwar advises government of Arunachal Pradesh to submit a detailed project report (DPR) for establishment of a textile park in the state at the earliest, during his meeting with Deputy Chief Minister Kameng Dolo.

He said that the Centre has assured funds for setting up a textile park in Arunachal Pradesh and the state government would be informed as and when the proposal would be cleared by the ministry.

Union Textile Minister Santosh Kumar Gangwar has assured Arunachal Pradesh of funds for establishment of a textile park in the state.

In an official release yesterday, Gangwar gave assurance to Deputy Chief Minister Kameng Dolo for a textile park.

It said that the state government would be informed as and when the proposal would be cleared by the ministry, Gangwar advised government (of Arunachal Pradesh) to submit a detailed project report (DPR) at the earliest.
