Uzbek announces construction of new technical textile research park

Uzbekistan announces construction of a new technical textile training and research park in the territory of Tashkent textile institute. The total project amounts is to the tune of US$15 million. The project is implemented by Ozbekyengilsanoat JSC jointly with the Ministry of Commerce, Industry and Energy of the Republic of Korea. The completion of the techno park construction is scheduled for 2018.

The facility, set to open in the country’s capital in 2018, is expected to raise the profile of textile developments across both Uzbekistan and South Korea.

Sri Lanka will not qualify for some of the GSP-Plus preferences if and when they get such preferences when UK is out of EU, according to Executive Director of the Institute of Policy Studies Dr. Saman Kelegama. Sri Lankan’s 35 percent of exports to the EU goes to the UK market and 40 percent of textile and apparel exports to the EU goes to the UK market.

With the government formulating a new model under MUDRA scheme for providing credit to handloom sector under which it has combined elements of concessional credit such as margin money, interest subvention and credit guarantee cover. The Textiles Ministry on June 29 said that it has set a target of extending MUDRA loans to five lakh handloom weavers in the next three years.

The ministry has requested every state and UT to prepare a three-year action plan to achieve the five lakh target.

ASF prices steady amid lackluster demand

Taiwan origin 3D bright ASF tow offers were flat in the third week of June while offers for regular products rolled over during the week.

Acrylic staple fibre markets saw cost support fading, as the uptrend in acrylonitrile prices slowed down while downstream demand was still lackluster.

In China, medium-length staple fiber and cotton-type staple prices remained unchanged on the week. ASF producers continued to run at reduced rates, to relieve inventory pressure. Participants who were bullish earlier, were now frustrated by weaker‐than‐expected yarn and fabric markets.

Acrylonitrile price rises on tight supply in Europe

In Europe, acrylonitrile prices jumped on tight supply as maintenance at Ineos' Seal Sands plant continued. European acrylonitrile spot prices jumped US$40 a ton CIF Mediterranean on the week, taking the total surge to US$65 in two weeks.

In US, acrylonitrile spot was steady although tight supply prevailed. Spot pricing were higher over the last three months due to tighter supply and climbing prices in Asia. US acrylonitrile export assessment rolled over on the week. The assessment was at its highest level since end-July when it was at US$1,150 a ton.

A free trade agreement (FTA) is paramount to boost exports, including garment exports to the UK, said A. Sakthivel, the head of the Tirupur Exporters' Association. Although, the EU is a major destination for readymade garments, but the UK a leading market as Europe makes up 46 percent of apparel exports, of which Britain's share is 40 percent.

Hence, garment and knitwear exporters in Tirupur are pitching for FTA with the EU, also want a separate trade pact with Britain after it voted to leave the EU.
