Spinning mills in the Telegana State which has been passing through a crisis for a couple of years, getting a big relief with the Telangana Government’s decision to reduce the power tariff. The measure is expected to have a soothing effect on the sector as power charges comprise 20 to 30 percent of the production cost, based on the quality of the yarn produced.

In India, polyester yarn prices inched up in Ludhiana markets in the third week of June while they rolled over in Indore, reflecting regional demand/supply balance. Polyester yarn 30 knit yarn prices regained INR1 a kg in Ludhiana market while they rolled over in Indore.

In Pakistan, polyester yarn prices remained unchanged in absence of clear market direction as PSF prices were stuck at previous week’s level after global crude oil prices retreated on the week.

Asian PTA marker, the CFR China rose US$2 a ton in the third week of June while CFR Southeast Asia was up US$1 a ton on the week.

Yisheng Petrochemical kept list price for PTA at US$615-618 a ton while Hengli Petrochemical maintained its self-lifting offer at US$635 a ton.

Purified terephthalic acid prices were slightly up that week as G20 summit caused uncertainty about shutdowns. Upstream paraxylene cost also sobered significantly providing good margins to PTA makers.

Pakistan Ministry of Textile officials believe that although Britain has announced exit from the EU, it will have zero or nominal impact on Pakistan’s textile exports as British Prime Minister will step down in October, and from October it will take another two years to complete the process, the actual process will be long.

They are hopeful that in around two and half years time Pakistan will find some way to have a free trade agreement with Britain, same like EU.

Cotton prices rise further due to heavy rains and persistent demand by mills and spinners, at cotton market on Wednesday, dealers said. The official spot rate was higher by Rs 50 to Rs 5,750. In Sindh seed cotton prices were at Rs 3100-3300 while in Punjab phutti prices were at Rs 3100 and Rs 3350, per 40 kg, respectively.

According to the market sources, cotton prices moving up with the passage of time the world over owing to shortage problem.

As erratic weather forces farmers in Pakistan, the world's fourth-biggest producer to trim area under the cotton crop, cotton imports are expected to remain near record-high levels in the year to July 2017, industry officials said. A supply crunch in Pakistan, at a time when back-to-back droughts have taken a toll on output at top producer India, could boost global cotton prices from their current near 11-month highs. The two countries have already taken turns this year to buy from each other to fill shortages at home.
