Nigerian govt to revive its CTG industry mulls production hub, tax incentives

The Nigerian Minister of State for Industry, Trade and Investment, Mrs Aisha Abubakar, at the Textile and Garment Manufacturing Conference organized by Africa Fashion Week Nigeria (AFWN) 2016 in Lagos unveiled plans to create a production hub and offer tax incentives for the revival of the cotton, textile and garment industry for sustainable economic development.

Abubakar said that the government remains passionate about promoting growth in the industry and across its value chain.

In the event held by VDMA Textile Machinery Association, supported by the Việtnam Textile and Apparel Association (VITAS), more than 600 business representatives and experts from Việtnam’s textile and support industries were introduced to Germany’s latest textile and apparel technologies in Hà Nội on July 5.

The VDMA Textile Machinery Association groups 130 companies manufacturing textile machines and equipment with a value of 3.1 billion EUR (US$3.46 billion) in 2015.

Smriti Irani takes charge of Textiles Ministry as Prime Minister Narendra Modi shows faith in her capabilities. She thanked Prime Minister for allocating her a portfolio which is of great importance to the rural economy of the nation.

Smriti said that she was happy to have been given an opportunity in the textile sector especially when a special package (of Rs 6,000 crore for the apparel segment) has been announced for the sector.

She is hopeful that the much-awaited new national textile policy "will soon see the light of day".

Gamarra Produce, the fifth edition of the competition organized annually by the Ministry of Production (PRODUCE), Peru which awards the country’s most innovative clothing designs, this time will have 400 companies presenting their first article of clothing to be evaluated by the jury, composed of recognized national designers from around the country.

More than a thousand small textiles firms will sign up to participate in the contest, which seeks to recognize talent and business innovation of the countries small and medium textile designers, said PRODUCE’s Director, Mauricio Moscoso.

Vietnam's textiles and garment products that accounted for nearly 14 percent of the country’s exports last year, is likely to miss the annual shipment target of $31 billion this year has it is facing downshift which industry insiders attribute to the rise of new suppliers in the global market. It’s textiles and garments exports in the first six months increased only 5.1 percent to US$10.7 billion, the slowest pace since 2010.

According to figures released by the General Statistics Office of Vietnam, the industry's exports grew 8.2 percent to $22.63 billion last year.

Asian ASF markets stabilizes amid lackluster demand

Taiwan origin 3D bright ASF tow offers were flat in the fourth week of June while offers for regular products rolled over during the week.

In China, medium-length staple fiber and cotton-type staple prices remained unchanged on the week.

Acrylic staple fibre markets saw cost support fading, as the uptrend in acrylonitrile prices slowed down while downstream demand was still lackluster. In China, ASF producers continued to run at reduced rates, to relieve inventory pressure.

Acrylonitrile price jumps in Europe

Asian ACN marker, the CFR Far East Asia was flat in the fourth week of June while Southeast Asia were down US$10 a ton on the week. In China, offers for offshore cargoes were up US$20 a ton CFR during the week.

Acrylonitrile prices in Asian markets were stable on the week amid thin trade following three-day holidays in China and increased supply with the restart of PTT Asahi Chem plant opening the week. In China, spot prices seemed to be losing strength that week. CPDC will raise run rate to average 90% over June-August period.
