High confidence of foreign investors in Rwanda increases FDI by 78pc

Foreign Private Capital Census (FPC) 2015 latest report released by the central bank shows that Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) in Rwanda have increase by 78.1 pecent to US$458.7 million in in 2014 from US$ 257.6 million recorded during 2013 due to high confidence of foreign investors in Rwanda and the country’s attractiveness to foreign investment.

Flagship investments that were registered in 2014 include C&H garment in textile industry, Advanced Factory Units (AFUs) in call center manufacturing.

The Indian textile and apparel sector can triple in size over the next 10 years, get USD 150 billion in foreign exchange annually, and create an additional 50 million jobs by 2025 of which 35-40 million will be women employees, as per study commissioned by CII to the Boston Consulting Group (BCG).

The study estimated that if the industry achieves breakout growth, it will spur the apparel, made-ups and textile industry to reach USD 300 billion by 2025.

The Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI), Ahmedabad zonal unit on Wednesday brought to light a Vapi-based firm, Sarla Performance Fibres Ltd, a 100% EOU (export oriented unit) evading anti dumping duty in nylon partially oriented (NPO) yarn. The yarn was being cleared to the domestic tariff area (DFA), meant to be exported in form of finished goods, said a DRI official.

The Kenyan government to start implementing a plan from next month to reduce the impact of second-hand clothes on the local textile industry, commonly known as mitumba.

Rajeev Arora, the adviser for textile value chain at the Ministry of Industry, Trade and Cooperatives at the launch of a report on Kenya's textile and fashion industry said the government will supply clothes produced at EPZ to mitumba traders, and they will retail at the same price as imported second-hand clothes.

The Union Cabinet on Wednesday cleared a Rs 6,000 crore special package for the textiles and apparel sector with an aim to deal with the rising competition from China’s textile and apparel industry. The move, according to the government, would create 10 million new jobs in the next three years, in addition attracting investments of $11 billion and generating $30 billion in exports. The decision was taken at a meeting of the Union Cabinet chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

ASF price inches up in India, Pakistan

In China, medium-length staple fiber and cotton-type staple prices rolled over in the second week of June.

Taiwan origin 3D bright ASF tow offers were stable at US$1.55-1.65 a kg while offers for regular products were at US$1.50-1.55 a kg, both rolling over last week.

Acrylic staple fibre prices remained stable on the week although acrylonitrile cost surged over past few week which has put ASF margins into red. Thus, ASF run rate was cut in China. Overall, trading activity was mute, given low buying interest ahead of the Dragon Boat Festival early in the week.

Acrylonitrile price jumps across all regions

Asian ACN markers jumped US$5-15 a ton CFR Far East Asia and Southeast Asia in the second week of June. In China, offers for offshore cargoes remained unchanged during the week.

Acrylonitrile prices in Asia continued to track higher following a spike in prices last week amid continuing tight supply and also supported by rise in propylene cost.

In China, ACN prices marched higher in a snug market while offers for offshore cargoes rolled over amid lukewarm transaction.
